Big Bash League: Mitchell Marsh loses his cool and hurls expletives at umpire after getting out

The Qualifier of the Big Bash League that took place between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers ended in the former coming up trumps with ease. After Perth chose to bat first on a two-paced wicket, regular wickets hurt their chances of making a big score but Josh Inglis’ knock of 69 runs ensured his side got to 167/6. Ben Dwarshius picked up two important wickets for the Sixers.

In reply, the side from Sydney came out all guns blazing as openers Josh Philippe and James Vinces got off to a flying start. By the time the former got out for 45, the score was in excess of 90 in 9 overs. Vince and Daniel Hughes then took the Sixers home in just 17 overs. Englishman Vince was left stranded on 98* after a wide bowled by AJ Tye with one run required to win quashed his hopes of scoring a hundred.

Umpire makes horrific blunder; Marsh reacts

Umpiring blunders have been very common in the ongoing BBL tournament which has been especially marked because of the absence of the Decision Review System (DRS). One such blunder happened in the 13th over of the Scorchers’ innings when Steve O’Keefe bowled a delivery wide outside leg-stump which Mitchell Marsh poked at but got nowhere near. The bowler appealed and surprisingly instead of giving the ball as wide, the umpire raised his finger.

Marsh was absolutely lived with the decision and vented his anger by screaming, “F***ing s**t umpiring” which was clearly caught on the stump mic even as the Sixers players celebrated. It remains to be seen if action will be taken on Marsh for his act of hurling expletives at the umpire.
