Bill Belichick is full of surprises. From winning eight Super Bowls to dating a 24-year-old cheerleader, the NFL veteran can do no wrong. Currently, Belichick remains without a coaching job after mutually agreeing to part ways with the New England Patriots. He turned down several teams to take a break, but his recent moves suggest he is ready for a comeback.
Interestingly, Belichick’s next venture is not coaching in the NFL but rather taking up a job in college. According to Grant Hughes of 247 Sports, Bill Belichick recently interviewed for the vacant head coaching post at North Carolina Tar Heels.
After NC fired Mack Brown, they became the biggest school in the Power Four Conference without a head coach. Under Brown, NC finished with a 6-6 record and lost the final two games of the season.
Other teams, including Purdue and Tulane, are also looking to bring in a new face, but none boast the same amount of pedigree as North Carolina. Athletics director Bubba Cunningham raved about receiving copious numbers of CVs.
The announcement of Belichick’s application for the position was unexpected. It’s surprising that he would coach college students after admitting to being more inclined toward dealing with players with whom he has a good rapport. So, going through recruitment and handling new individuals is something that’s very hard to picture.
Why is Bill Belichick not coaching in the NFL?
In 2023, the Patriots experienced a meltdown by losing 13 games. It proved to be the last straw for owner Robert Kraft and the Patriots front office. Their next move was releasing the most successful head coach of all time.
After the historic separation, Belichick tried his best to land an NFL job. He interviewed for teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders, but neither of them took a gamble on the veteran.
Eventually, he stopped looking for one and decided to try his hand as an analyst on TV. Belichick signed a contract with CW and agreed to a weekly segment with Pat McAfee on ESPN.
However, he turned a lot of heads after the news broke that he started dating Jordon Hudson, a 24-year-old college graduate and a cheerleader. He even became active on social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram. Belichick was also seen supporting his son Stephen Belichick (Washington Huskies defensive coordinator) during game days.
