After the news of Bill Belichick missing out on being a first-ballot Hall of Famer ravaged throughout the football world, the revelation about the possible influence Bill Polian had on voters became a major talking point.
The latter was believed to have mentioned to voters that the former New England Patriots head coach deserved some ‘penance’ for cheating through ‘spygate’ and other scandals.
The furor that came about suggested that everyone, from fans, members of the media, players, as well as coaches, wanted the voters exposed to see if Polian did indeed influence the panel.
I voted for coach Belichick in the Hall of Fame selection meeting. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has confirmed that fact through the auditors of the selection process. Again, I’ll state that I never said that I believe that coach Belichick should wait a year for enshrinement. This has been confirmed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, numerous selectors who were in the room, and my vote for Coach Belichick.
Bill Polian told SiriusXM NFL Radio
This sounded as if the 83-year-old was reading off a statement that was possibly made in collaboration with a PR team. However, he continued the stance he has maintained so far, that he did not influence voters.

Polian claims that his vote is proof that he believes Bill Belichick should have been a first-ballot Hall of Famer. It was just unfortunate that 11 others thought otherwise.
Stephen A. Smith calls for a boycott on Hall of Fame
The news about Bill Belichick not garnering enough first-ballot Hall of Fame votes became a raging topic all across the football world. With First Take starting off in the morning, naturally, the cast would have some strong words to say.
I will not be watching the Hall of Fame. As a matter of fact, I will encourage everybody out there not to watch it ever again. This is a disgrace.
Stephen A. Smith said
As a fellow journalist, the $100 million earning ESPN executive producer felt that those 11 voters who did not pick Belichick had effectively undermined every other reporter’s position in sports.

Smith believes that this was further proof to the rest of the world that many in the media cannot leave aside personal bias when analyzing a subject. Stephen A. Smith cited his own example of how many would think that his recent bad blood against NBA superstar LeBron James would suggest that he will not vote for him.
However, that would be a disservice, as he will not let personal bias come into the phase. The 58-year-old believes the Hall of Fame voters should have followed the same policy.
Now that the damage is done, the father of two wants the NFL and those sponsoring the Hall of Fame to pull funding as a way to punish those who did not do right by Bill Belichick.
Lawrence Taylor goes OFF on Hall of Fame for snubbing Bill Belichick
Out of most of the people slamming the Pro Football Hall of Fame for snubbing Bill Belichick from the first ballot, not many are experienced enough to know what it feels like.

You saying that Bill Belichick is not worthy to be in the Hall of Fame First Ballot? If he’s not, then the whole thing is total nonsense.

The two-time Super Bowl champion, whom Belichick coached, earned his gold yellow jacket on his first nomination. He felt this was egregious on the organization’s part to stop his coach from getting his jacket the first time, when Belichick has more accolades than LT himself.
