Charles Oliveira incurred a close split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan on the main card of UFC 300. The former UFC lightweight champion is infamous for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu prowess, which he made use of. However, ‘Ahalkalakets’ came out on top. Now, BJJ savant Rener Gracie pitched in on ‘Do Bronx’ and his failed attempts.

The Gracie jiu-jitsu lineage and their impact is well revered in the MMA community. Even Charles Oliveira paid his respects to Royce Gracie. Hence, their word holds quite reverence. Rener Gracie showed Oliveira’s two submission maneuvers and why they failed.

Tsarukyan’s shorts were perfectly on loose. So, when Oliveira had him on guillotine… the sweat plus the loose shorts... sliding down...Number one is you can go full body triangle... you extend the hips, you're not gonna slide past their hip bones, and you don't have to worry about loose shorts or tight shorts...[on the D'Arce choke] I can lay my weight into it and just squeeze with all my body, slow, and get the tap out.

Gracie explained that the close guard arm-in guillotine, BJJ practitioner Oliveira’s specialty move, needs proper traction. Arman Tsarukyan’s Venum Sport loose shorts and sweat caused the leg to slide down, ‘Do Bronx’ also attempted the D’Arce choke towards the end of 3rd round from a turtle crouch. But with him failing to hook in the legs, the Armenian dipped his chest flat and could prone away.

Oliveira is a third-degree black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner. However, Gracie argues that his techniques were tough to execute, especially against Tsarukyan. Consequently, he believed flattening out was a legitimate defense to a D’Arce. While his breakdown came live during UFC 300, there was much uproar from fans right after. These are valuable lessons for anyone to escape a submission.

Who won between Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira? MMA Community pitches in

Arman Tsarukyan duked it out with stalwart Charles Oliveira at UFC 300. The battle had top contender implications; hence, both fighters gave it their all. While ‘Do Bronx’ had the usual upper hand with submission holds, they came in a little too late. Tsarukyan outshone with complete flexibility and definitive striking, even making Oliveira bleed – very akin to Dan Hooker‘s blonde hairline turning red.

Adalaide Byrd, Ron McCarthy, and Mike Bell (of the 10-8 fame) scored the bout. Bell scored a round controversially in favor of Oliveira. Concurrently, fans have cried foul on the almost-robbery. 29 Media members anonymously submitted scores to MMA Decisions, favoring Tsarukyan 29-28. Eight, including MMA Junkie, scored it for Oliveira.

Play-by-play Jon Anik and Joe Rogan told Daniel Cormier that when a fighter fails to submit or finish an opponent in a “win,” they usually “lose” in a decision afterward. This is what happened to Oliveira. This is a famed quote by Cormier’s “Good Guy-Bad Guy” podcast co-host, Chael Sonnen. All in all, Tsarukyan is the consensus winner.
