Blast from the past: Scratches spotted on Alexander Zverev from 2019 Shanghai Masters
German tennis player Alexander Zverev was recently hit with allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-girlfriend, Olga Sharypova.
Now, some evidence has been dug up by netizens that seems to indicate that their fights reached a boiling point in Shanghai.
Photos reveal Alexander Zverev scratched on his neck
The Russian Olga, who dated Zverev for a significant part of 2019, first posted a confession on her Instagram about the trauma she received. She then gave a scathing interview to Ben Rothenburg (detailed here and here) detailing her experience with the German World No. 7.
She had further said that things got to a head by the time they reached Shanghai, but didn’t reveal details of the same.
While Zverev has gone on to deny the accusations, he also gets the benefit of the doubt as they will have to be proven first. Sharypova’s interview seems to be very credible, and she also has witnesses by her side. However, as with any incidents of this nature, they should be verified before reprimanding the accused.
Now, photos of Zverev have been dug up from the tournament, revealing some noticeable changes.
A comparison of the photos reveals that Zverev got some huge scratches on the left side of his neck on the 9th of October. No visible signs of these scratches were there on that day, and they only showed up on photos from the 10th of October.
The timeline of the photos strongly indicated that the couple had a very bad fight on the night of the 9th, to the point that Zverev got such scratches. They don’t look like the sort one would normally get without any external interference and are suspicious.
Zverev is currently having one of his best professional seasons on record. He reached the finals of the US Open, losing to fellow Next Gen star Dominic Thiem. He also won two back-to-back titles at the twin Cologne events. His most recent tournament, the Rolex Paris Masters, was also a success. He defeated the likes of Rafael Nadal to reach the finals of the event. However, he lost to Daniil Medvedev despite taking the first set.
Zverev will now compete at the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals, looking to take the title for the second time. He previously won the title here in 2018.
