The Philadelphia Eagles lost the Monday night matchup to the Atlanta Falcons last night but that did not stop the team from winning air-time on ESPN. The Week 2 game took place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and right from before the commencement of the game up until after, it seemed the network was inclined towards covering the home team more than reporting it from an unbiased perspective.

It’s not a sentiment shared merely by fans but also by Kyle Brandt of Good Morning Football. The show’s host was not happy with how ESPN rooted for the Philadelphia Eagles by giving them more coverage.

It seemed to be an attempt to get more fans into their booth, the network had Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, and Nick Foles, all former Eagles on the set of Monday Night Countdown hyping the home team and fans up.

This was the start of the preferential treatment to the home team. Brandt took a shot at the network as he broke down the theatrical ending of last night’s matchup.

It's in Philadelphia and it's celebrating Nick Foles, and it's celebrating Jason Kelce, and the 'E' in ESPN stood for Eagles last night...Cousins always loses some prime time.

Throughout the night, the latest addition to the network, Jason Kelce stuck around from before the game, sat in the booth alongside Joe Buck and Troy Aikman before signing out with a “Go Eagles!” chant.

ESPN’s biased coverage of MNF was evident

It turned out to be more of a Jason Kelce appreciation night. The network appeared to prioritize endorsing the latest addition to its football broadcasting team over offering viewers unbiased coverage of the game. Fortunately, the Manningcast saved the night as Peyton and Eli Manning did not cease to entertain fans.

The show featured the likes of Bill Belichick and former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan appearing as guests. It is not surprising to see ESPN pull out all the stops to promote Kelce and bring aboard hometown heroes.

After all, it is what led to the formation of a crowd in front of the network’s booth. Besides, Philly fans are a different breed, to appeal to them, one has to give out the illusion that they are rooting for them.

The last thing that ESPN would want is to irk Eagles fans. For Kirk Cousins and the Falcons, the lack of media coverage was irrelevant. They went out there and did their jobs.

A last-minute dropped pass by Saquon Barkley cost the Eagles a win. Kirk Cousins tapped into his inner ‘Kirko Chainz’ and spearheaded the team’s final touchdown drive in under a minute. He connected with Drake London and Younghoe Koo delivered the final blow as he nailed the field goal.
