On Monday, June 29, Bo Bichette returned to Toronto. Upon his return, an emotional Bichette admitted he still sometimes thinks about his moment in Game 7 of last year’s World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Toronto Blue Jays were hoping to end a 32-year drought for the World Series title last year. After winning back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993, the Canadian side had not tasted championship success.

After 5 games, they were leading the best-of-seven series. Following a dramatic loss in Game 6, it all came down to Game 7.

In this, Bichette gave the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead following a 3-run home run against Shohei Ohtani. The Rogers Centre exploded to life in the third inning after this huge shot from him.

Unfortunately for him and the Blue Jays, they suffered a brutal heartbreak. Home runs from Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas in the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, tied the game at 4-4.

In the 11th inning, Will Smith‘s home run gave the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. The visitors held on to the lead and repeated as World Series champions.

Following the end of the season, Bichette became a free agent. Eventually, the 28-year-old joined the New York Mets on a 3-year, $126 million deal. This brought an end to his 10-year stay with the club.

On Monday, he came back to Toronto as the Mets took on the Blue Jays. While speaking with the reporters, the 2-time All-Star expressed he was grateful for the experience last year, but that moment does come up in his mind every once in a while.

I’m so grateful that we had that experience and got there but you dream of winning it, so I don’t know how many times I’ve replayed it, but it comes to mind every once in a while.

Bo Bichette told the reporters on Monday

When asked what type of reception he could get from the fans in Toronto, the infielder became emotional and expressed that he gave everything he had.

I don’t know what to expect. I think that I … I gave it everything I had, so I just hope that’s appreciated.

Bo Bichette said

Had the Blue Jays won that day, Bichette’s home run would have likely gone down as one of the greatest swings in franchise history. Unfortunately, the wait for a 3rd World Series title goes on for the Toronto-based side.

Bo Bichette received a standing ovation from Blue Jays fans following return to Toronto

At the start of the day, Bo Bichette did not know how the fans would react to his return. In the end, it was all smiles and love as they gave him a standing ovation.

Before he came to the plate, the team played a tribute video for him. As the stadium announcer announced his name, a huge cheer echoed around the arena. The supporters stood up and applauded their former star.

Speaking of the game, Bichette did not have the best of times with the bat. He went 0-for-4 as the Mets lost 2-1.

The 2026 season has been an underwhelming campaign so far for Bichette and the Mets. While he has 10 home runs and 48 RBIs, there have been some major slumps for them.

The loss on Monday was the Mets’ 50th loss of the year. With a 35-50 record, the team is 15 games behind the .500 mark. On Friday, the team fired manager Carlos Mendoza following a 6th straight loss.

As for the Blue Jays, they have also underperformed this season. After their heartbreaking loss last season, many expected the team to push for the title once again.

They also have a losing record at the moment. Their victory on Monday, though, snapped a 6-game losing run, leaving them with a 40-45 record, 10 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings.
