Bo Nix unfazed by Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson competition for Broncos’ starting QB job: “They’ll play me when I’m ready”

Sean Payton drafted Bo Nix with the idea that he will be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos but even after 3 months of practice he has yet to decide.

Bo Nix is waiting for the green signal from Sean Payton; until then, he will continue to compete with Zach Wilson and Jarett Stidham for the Denver Broncos starting quarterback job. Payton adopted a wait-and-watch approach, evaluating all three quarterbacks before making the final decision.

Nix took reps with the first team on the first day, followed by Wilson on the second and Stidham on the third. On Saturday, Payton switched things up by rotating the three one after the other.

The rotation has been pretty consistent. I think that will begin to change a little bit as we get into the next week and a half.

Payton continuing to evaluate the quarterbacks suggested that the final say lay with him. And even though he for the first time hinted at a timeline, there’s no guarantee he will have the final results by then.

It’s an excruciating wait for 2024 first-round pick Bo Nix, whom Payton claimed to possess every quality he looked for in a quarterback. And yet there’s still no confirmation whether he will be the starter. There’s even the possibility he might have to play backup.

I don’t know if I have a choice in that one. If I want to stick around, I better accept it... They'll play him when I am ready.
Bo Nix said, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN

Despite the uncertainty, Nix has neither any intention of becoming complacent nor accepting the outcome of being second best. Instead, he will keep grinding to prove his worth.

Bo Nix praised his fellow quarterbacks for pushing him

After Russell Wilson left for Pittsburgh, Payton wanted a fresh start, so for the first time, he drafted a quarterback in the first round and traded for Wilson from the Jets. Nix played 61 games for Auburn and Oregon, but Wilson had NFL experience—all be it a terrible one.

Stidham, on the other hand, played the tail of last season, taking over from 36-year-old Wilson. During the offseason, he made it clear to give both Nix and Wilson a run for their money, and so far, it has worked.

Nix praised both Wilson and Stidham for pushing him in the training. It gave him the onus to memorize the playbook as quickly as possible because others had a head start.

You owe it to respect the other guys in the competition. They also want to be the starter, and they [also] are going to have to accept [Sean Payton’s decision].

Payton agreed that his quarterbacks were working hard. However, he refused to reveal anything further.
