Boris Becker has claimed that he was on the verge of becoming the coach of Jannik Sinner. The German tennis legend has been doing commentary most of the time recently, but has lift the lid on a huge secret.
Becker, who coached Novak Djokovic between 2014 and 2016, believes that he could potentially be in the mix in case Darren Cahill leaves. However, Becker believes that Sinner will stick with the legendary coach. Becker said in an interview to Corriere:
I was close to becoming Sinner’s coach — I thought it was a secret. It’s true. Back then I told Jannik: I don’t know how my London case will end, so I can’t commit. But I don’t want to leave you hanging — one of the names I suggested was Darren Cahill. For me, he’s the best. If Cahill retires at the end of the season, maybe I’ll be back in the mix? Darren won’t stop.
Becker was arguably the greatest coach of Djokovic’s career. The German was part of the team that generated four consecutive Grand Slams for the Serb between 2015 Wimbledon till 2016 Wimbledon. He added:
I always believed Jannik could become the strongest. He had to improve his serve and footwork, but his mind was already exceptional…Sinner has won four Slams at 24. I don’t think I could’ve done better than Cahill and Vagnozzi. Simone wasn’t famous when chosen, but few understand tennis like him. The team’s success speaks for itself — it’s incredible considering Jannik only started playing seriously at 13–14.

Jannik Sinner tightens World No.1 ranking race
By reclaiming the World No. 1 ranking, Jannik Sinner also intensified the battle for the ATP Year-End No. 1 title presented by PIF. He now sits just 1,050 points behind Carlos Alcaraz in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, setting up a thrilling showdown at the Nitto ATP Finals, where Sinner is the defending champion.
