Boris Becker has revealed that he hopes Alexander Zverev will end the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on tour. This comes after the Italian and Alcaraz reached their third consecutive Grand Slam final at the US Open, taking their rivalry to a higher level on tour, which has made them better than other players.

The duo has been more consistent on the court in the past two years than other players in the men’s circuit. They have also developed faster in their games after each setback on the court. Sinner and Alcaraz have won all the last eight Grand Slams, with each winning at least four major titles.

Sinner currently has four Grand Slams to his name, while Alcaraz has six. They have also faced each other on tour on 15 occasions, with Alcaraz leading their head-to-head record 10-5, and have won six of their last seven meetings. Meanwhile, Zverev has struggled against the two best players on the ATP Tour.

He met Alcaraz at the French Open final 2024 and fell to the Spaniard in five sets. At the Australian Open final in January, he was expected to push for the title against Sinner, but he performed poorly in straight sets. He has been very inconsistent this season and far from his standard display on the court.

However, Boris Becker believes he’s the one to break Sinner and Alcaraz’s dominance on tour. The former World No.1 told dpa during his book presentation “Inside: Winning – Losing – Starting Over. He revealed that every player in the ATP has to push themselves to improve in their game to get to the level of Sinner and Alcaraz:

Indeed, Alcaraz and Sinner are clearly dominating the rest of the players at the moment. I don’t really understand why that is. Every player has to take a look at themselves and improve. Personally, I would very much like him to win a Grand Slam one day or regularly win major tournaments, because I respect him a lot and it’s good for our business. I hope he finds his top form again in the fall and qualifies for the ATP Finals.

Sinner and Alcaraz have been dubbed to dominate the men’s circuit like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic did. They have met in five consecutive tournament finals, in which they both featured. The last time they clashed was at the 2025 US Open final, where Alcaraz beat the Italian star in four sets.

Iga Swiatek’s coach agrees with Jannik Sinner’s comment after loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open final

Jannik Sinner failed to defend his US Open title after losing in four sets to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The defeat ended his 65-week reign at the top of the ATP rankings, taking Alcaraz to the top. During his post-match press conference, he noted that he was too predictable against Alcaraz and will aim to change that.

Iga Swiatek’s coach, Wim Fissette, was asked during his interview with Sport whether it was true that players ought to be less predictable on the court. The former Naomi Osaka’s coach affirmed that Sinner needs to improve on his game:

As a tennis player, you can’t become predictable. You have to develop, otherwise your opponents will get used to your game and know what to expect. Jannik Sinner admitted after his last match against Carlos Alcaraz, “Yes, I was too predictable. I need to enrich my game.” And that’s what it’s all about, especially at the highest level. Everyone is looking for ways to improve.

Alcaraz is expected to return to the court at the Laver Cup in San Francisco, which kicks off on September 18. After the tournament, he and Sinner are expected to compete at the China Open. Alcaraz won the title of the tournament last year after beating Sinner in three sets; the latter will be seeking revenge this time around.
