Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as one of the best players of the new generation in men’s tennis. The Spaniard has racked up four Grand Slam titles in the space of two years and is the favorite to win another this year. However, his 2024 season was filled with inconsistent displays on the court which tennis legend Boris Becker blames on Alcaraz’s team.
Alcaraz began the year by reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, his best run at the event. After that, he suffered an injury that saw him fail to win any title in the South American clay season despite being the favorite and top seed. In March, he finally earned his first crown by winning the Indian Wells Masters.
He backed it up with another statement victory at the Roland Garros, claiming his first Grand Slam of the season. He continued with the run of form by defending the Wimbledon Championship.
During the off-season, while several top players took time away from the court, Alcaraz went on to participate in two exhibition tournaments in America. In a recent conversation with Andrea Petkovic, Boris Becker slammed Alcaraz’s team for focusing more on money than titles.
Alcaraz ended 2024 winning four titles and losing only one final. The youngster failed to qualify for the semifinals of the ATP Finals after exiting in the group stage. This season, he will need to prove more and win more titles to be at the same level as Jannik Sinner, who claimed eight titles last year.
Andy Roddick believes Carlos Alcaraz is the biggest global star in sports
Carlos Alcaraz has already arrived in Melbourne for the Australian Open. For the first time this year, the Spaniard bids to win the one Grand Slam that has eluded him in his career. The World No.3 has already won the US Open, Wimbledon, and French Open and is seeking to become the youngest player in history to achieve a Career Slam.
This has made tennis legend Andy Roddick full of praise for the youngster. The American legend said in his latest session of his podcast that Alcaraz is one of the biggest global superstars.
Alcaraz has won 16 tour-level career titles, eight of them have come from clay, five on hard court and three on grass. He will be looking forward to increasing his tally this season, especially by winning Grand Slams.
