“Leave him the hell alone!” Boston fans get advice from ex-Celtics player on dealing with Kyrie Irving

Kendrick Perkins wants Boston Celtics fans to not rile Dallas Mavericks superstar Kyrie Irving up and leave him alone

Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks are about to face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals this week. Irving has history with Celtics fans. Something that went sour after his reaction to their taunts the last time he played a playoff game against them, did not sit well.

Therefore, it will be the best situation for them to get back at their former player. But Kendrick Perkins thinks otherwise. During an episode of NBA Today on ESPN, the former Boston Celtics center had a piece of advice for his former team’s fans.

Leave him the hell alone. Because you're not the ones that have to go between those lines and actually guard this man. Right now, Kyrie Irving has been in a zone. It's no Batman and Robin on this Dallas Mavericks team. It's a Batman and there is a Superman. Both of those guys are the leaders on this team. Both of those guys on any given night, between him and Luka can be the best player on the floor.

Owing to his allegiance to his former team, Kendrick Perkins knows that the Celtics fans booing could end up being detrimental to them. It could spur Irving on to dominate the game. Perkins knows that superstars go berserk if they get riled up. Especially if the fans in question happen to have history with the said player. Kyrie Irving was supposed to lead the Boston Celtics to an NBA title after they traded for him back in 2017.

On his return to face the Celtics in the playoffs, he flipped the bird after the fans constantly booed and taunted him. Perkins believes those taunts will go against them in the NBA Finals. After all, Irving is in the zone of being an elite player who is trying to redeem himself from all the negativity of the past.

Kyrie Irving is looking for redemption

Kyrie Irving decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers as he wanted to lead his own team. His next stop with the Boston Celtics did not work out as the team was not good enough to compete for a title and Irving struggled being a leader. Then with the Brooklyn Nets, he had a title-winning team. But off-court issues dampened any chance of them succeeding.

Now after all those years, Irving has finally got the chance to lead a team that actually looks up to him. The very fact that Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has ceded the leadership to Irving, itself speaks a lot. The superstar guard has revitalized himself, both as a basketball player and a human being.

Now all he will look for is to get redemption for all those years when everyone in the basketball universe was against him. Therefore, after getting praise for his rejuvenation, a single spark of animosity could spur him to prove any doubters wrong. Something that is highly possible with the Boston Celtics fans.
