Madison Square Garden representative refutes claims of ticket sales being the reason behind Jake Paul vs Hasim Rahman Jr getting cancelled
Jake Paul x Hasim Rahman Jr
Jake Paul vs Hasim Rahman Jr. was scheduled as a headliner for the August 6 PPV card in MSG, New York. Hasim had stepped into the fight after Paul’s original opponent Tommy Fury pulled out of the fight due to Visa issues. The fight was cancelled after Rahman was unable to make the contractual weight limit of 200lbs.
After the former YouTube star cancelled the fight alleging Rahman failed to make the contractual weight. Both the fighters engaged in a war of words in the media blaming each other for the cancellation. To prove himself right and Jake Paul as a liar, Hasim plans to weigh in publicly on Friday. The former YouTuber is once again left without an opponent.
Rahman a professional boxer with a record of 12-1 was considered as the first real challenge for the Problem Child. After turning pro the Problem Child has racked up a record of 5-0. He has notable wins over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley and former ONE champion Ben Askren. However, both of them weren’t professional boxers which led to many fans discrediting Paul.
Rahman Jr. had never fought below 211lbs before this fight. Many were eager to see the match and find out if the Problem Child can stand up against a real boxer. The cancellation has left fans disappointed with many divided on the reason for the cancellation.
Jake Paul vs Hasim Rahman Jr. was going to be one of the highest-grossing PPV in 15 years
Following the fight’s cancellation, many in the community including UFC president Dana White gave their reaction. White already has an ongoing beef with Paul on the internet. Responding to a question, He claimed low ticket sales were the reason for the cancellation. A lot of fans also believed this to be the real reason for the fight’s cancellation.
Earlier today journalist Ariel Helwani took to his Twitter to report of the MSG rep’s clarification on the low ticket sales. Helwani tweeted, “According to multiple MSG sources: Paul-Rahman Jr. was projected to be in the top 10 of highest-grossing boxing events in past 15 years at MSG. Also, per these same sources, ticket sales were “strong.” The cancellation “was not based on ticket sales.”
He further added how the narrative among fans is different from the claims by MSG’s rep. Helwani tweeted, “Obviously, the narrative being put out there is different, but this is what MSG is saying. They also said they expected a strong fight week push and would be happy and willing to work with the MVP team again in the near future.”
Yesterday an MSG rep clarified on the situation refuting the claims of low ticket sales. The representative stated, “To be clear, sales were strong heading into fight week — the cancellation was not based on ticket sales.” “This fight was projected to be in the top 10 of highest grossing boxing events at MSG in the past 15 years.” He further added.
Unlike his past fights, this fight would easily have been the biggest fight of the Problem Child‘s carrier. Pauls has previously competed in the states of Florida, Ohio, Georgia and California. Rahman and Paul also had sparred in the past. It would’ve been an interesting fight to see if the Problem Child is as real as he claims.
