Colby Covington was deeply concerned for Mike Tyson because of his upcoming fight against Jake Paul. The obvious reason for the concern is the huge 31-year age gap between the two. Here is what Colby Covington thinks about the situation:

Colby Covington recently discussed the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight on SOSCAST w/ Adam Sosnick podcast. He expressed uneasiness about Mike Tyson’s health before his fight with Jake Paul. 

I don’t think it’s safe, I think it’s dangerous at that age, your heart might explode you know. He gets hit in the head is, he might have a brain bleed, I mean the guy, I-that’s what I hope for I hope for that Mike Tyson makes it through injury-free and doesn’t get hurt.

Tyson suffers from sciatica which causes pain in the legs, hips, and lower back. Back in 2022, a picture of Tyson in a wheelchair at Miami International Airport went viral on social media and brought his condition under notice. He has not competed in a sanctioned professional fight since 2006. “Iron Mike” last stepped in the ring in 2020, when he took on Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match.

Many have criticized Paul for the choice of his opponents in the past. They are often retired MMA fighters or unheard-of semi-professional boxers. Taking on a 57-year-old Tyson is not doing him any favors. Many including Kamaru Usman think this might be the beginning of the end of his influencer boxing career.

Similarly, Jake Paul’s last fight was against Ryan Bourland at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Paul defeated Bourland by TKO in the first round of their fight. Many have expressed concerns about Mike Tyson’s health before his fight against Paul. People are worried because of his age and long history of substance use. Tyson, now 57, has been inactive since 2005. Meanwhile, Jake Paul is 27-years-old and in his prime.

Tyson’s previous struggle with alcoholism could increase the risk of tearing veins in the brain. A doctor has reportedly urged Tyson to reconsider the fight because of the risk of brain bleeding, heart attack, or “sudden death”.

However, Tyson’s trainer has said that he knows what he is doing in the ring. Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will fight this July at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be streamed live on Netflix and part of their first-ever combat sports venture.
