The sport of boxing is not a game, and boxers often risk their lives for the sport they love. Similarly, Prichard Colon was one of those fighters who paid the price in the brutal combat sports. Deontay Wilder, a decorated heavyweight, even broke down when he spoke about Colon while shedding light on boxer’s well-being.

Wilder is well known for his destructive punching power and devastating spree of KOS in his boxing career. Furthermore, Deontay Wilder would often describe entering the ring with the intent of hurting someone. However, after losing consecutively in his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury, Wilder took considerable time off from the sport. This is what Wilder stated when talking about Colon:

This man ain’t have no kids. Man, y’all don’t understand man. Y’all don’t f*cking understand what we go through, man.

Similarly, Wilder mentioned how Colon will never have kids or have a life because of what happened inside the ring. Hence, Wilder advocated for the well-being of fighters and stated that all fighters deserve respect for entering the ring.

Prichard Colon’s current condition

Colon woke up from a coma after losing to Terrel Williams, and it looked like he was going to take a long time to recover. But then he woke up after 221 days in a coma. There is progress but it is slow.

Aside from the WBC Championship being named after him, Colon has stayed out of the public eye. But his mom has updated his progress on social media, specifically her YouTube channel. It’s no secret that he’s not quite the same person he was before he suffered a massive brain injury and went into a coma.

Colon is now in a state where he can communicate verbally and is undergoing physical therapy. Five years after the incident, it appears that Colon has made considerable progress. Boxing fans hope all the very best for him.
