After making the biggest paycheck of his career, Floyd Mayweather Jr. continues his journey of exhibition boxing matches. A former champ will be fighting against the late American criminal’s grandson, John Gotti.
In 2017, Floyd Mayweather fought his last professional bout against Conor McGregor and called off his professional career with a 50-0 record. In his last professional match, Money made the highest payday of his career, and after that, he is continuing to fight against many newcomers in exhibition matches. Fighters like Logan Paul, Done Moore, and Aaron Chalmers are among those bouts where the result couldn’t be counted, but against Tenshin Nasukawa, Deji Oltunji, and Mikuru Asakura, he was able to secure the win.
Floyd Mayweather is currently 46 years old and is still able to give the toughest challenge to his opponents. After competing in February 2023, just two months later, he called off for another bout against a 30-year-old newcomer. This time the opponent was John Gotti, a professional boxer with a record of 2-0 in boxing and 5-1 record in MMA. Gotti had faced one loss, and that was in his last match against Nick Alley back in October 2020.
John Gotti III is the grandson of the Gambino crime family and died in prison in 2002. The current acting boss of the Gambino crime family is his father, John Gotti Jr. This upcoming bout got the “Last Name Matter” theme name as both fighters have big identities.
Fans are not happy with Floyd Mayweather’s decision to fight against someone just new
Since Mayweather will return on June 11, fans don’t look as excited as they used to. Fans want Floyd to fight against someone who is well-known and has made a mark in the professional combat sports world. This fight will take place in Sunrise, Florida, at FLA Live Arena.
As this will be a pay-per-view bout, this can be the disastrous fight of his career as fans don’t seem interested in the bout anymore. Fans have flurried the tweets of hate against this, as Mayweather is now competing against someone who has not set a mark for them.
Many fans feel this will be a money-making fight only, as there are no intentions of winning or losing the bout. The 46-year-old has nothing to achieve big in his boxing career as he already registered his name as a GOAT of boxing. But his exhibition match career may receive a setback this time. Fans have already shown a glimpse of disinterest in this bout.
