Boxer Jake Paul has signed on to fight Andre August in his next bout. The fight will be at cruiserweight (200lbs) and an eight-round affair. This marks a change in strategy for Paul, whose boxing career has primarily featured older MMA fighters making their names in the UFC.

The decision did not critically have a good turnout. The common consensus remains that pro boxers choose optimal fighters in their later fights down the line. But with August at 10-1-1, Paul is again going against all odds. Journalist Aaron Bronsteter tweeted a statement from Nakisa Bidarin, co-founder of Paul’s MVP Promotions. This is what Bidarin said:

He's once again doing what very few of the best and biggest boxers in the world have done in their 9th professional fight – fighting someone with a better record and more experience. Pound-for-pound, the great Terrence Crawford fought a 9-14 opponent in his 9th fight, Canelo Alvarez fought a 0-1 opponent, and Gervonta Davis fought an opponent that had 31 losses! But Terence, Canelo and Gervonta didn’t have the world watching. Jake Paul does, and he’s once again putting it all on the line taking on a 10-1 opponent...

At 7-1 and 4 KOs, Paul is coming off a unanimous decision win over former UFC star Nate Diaz in August. Before this, the Ohio-born star, who lives and trains in Puerto Rico, suffered his first career loss to Tommy Fury. August, on the other hand, is on a five-fight winning streak.

The card will stream on DAZN and will not be a pay-per-view event. The fight will be on offer as part of the DAZN subscription package. Only time will tell if Paul prevails over the boxer.

As a seasoned pro boxer, August has the most experience and KOs of any opponent Paul has faced in his career. This is why the pairing has not favored fighting pundits and fans alike. In a statement, Paul revealed that he was the underdog as August had more KOs and experience than him. Hence, this fight would become a step up for his quest to become a boxing world champion.

Paul has taken to X to post about the fight and a video about it. He has warned off the opponent in the sternest of terms. Also, in a special championship feature on the Paul vs. August card, Shadasia “Sweet Terminator” Green will take on Crews-Dezurn for the WBC super middleweight title. This marks MVP’s latest significant women’s championship fight as the company works to establish equality throughout the sport.
