Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the greatest boxers of time. Mayweather grew up in a rough neighborhood in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was a witness to many violent incidents. His mother was a drug addict, and his father sold drugs. It was one of the reasons why he remained a teetotaler his entire life.
Mayweather, in his appearance on the Pivot Podcast, explained why he did not do drugs and consume alcohol. This is what he said:
It's just that, you know, I just seen so many different substances break everybody down, break so many blacks down, yeah. Entertainers, athletes.Floyd Mayweather via Pivot Podcast.
The important thing to note is that Floyd Mayweather Sr. spent time in jail for cocaine smuggling. It made him miss five and a half years of his son’s childhood. It all might have contributed to Mayweather Jr. following a clean lifestyle in and outside of boxing. Mayweather’s final professional fight was against Conor McGregor.
Mayweather is active in exhibition boxing. His next exhibition bout is a rematch with John Gotti III. Their first meeting was controversial and needed police assistance after the end of the bout. Since the end of his professional career, Mayweather has done exhibition fights seven times. The rematch against Gotti is going to be the eighth one.
Floyd Mayweather will be rematching John Gotti III in Las Vegas
Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s upcoming bout is an exhibition match against John Gotti III in Las Vegas. Mayweather announced the fight on his Instagram. However, the venue and date were not provided. The available information is that the fight is set for Super Bowl weekend. The 2024 Super Bowl is set to be held in Las Vegas on February 11.
Their first fight was held at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, on June 11. Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight in the sixth round after excessive trash-talking. However, Gotti went after Mayweather after the end of the bout. This caused the teams of both men to enter the ring. The fight even escalated outside the ring.
The Florida Athletic Commission suspended Gotti for six months. However, Mayweather did not get any suspension. John Gotti III is the son of John Angelo Gotti and the grandson of John Joseph Gotti. Both his father and grandfather were the boss of the Gambino crime family.
