“If he would’ve boxed me, I would’ve never tried to hurt him,” Mike Tyson talks about Evander Holyfield’s embarrassing loss against Vitor Belfort

Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield

Evander Holyfield returned to the boxing ring after more than 10 years. He faced the former UFC title contender Vitor Belfort in a boxing match and was beaten in the very first round of their contest.

Holyfield looked slow and weirdly immobile in the contest, he just took punches from Belfort, and as soon as the referee saw enough, he stopped the fight. Many criticized Belfort for even taking the fight, but fellow legend and Holyfield’s former opponent Mike Tyson believes it isn’t the end of the line for him.

Tyson thinks Holyfield didn’t look like himself in there. According to Tyson, Holyfield is incredibly tough, but he looked way more fragile against Belfort, he said, “He’s always known for taking a great punch and I didn’t think he took a good punch.”

Tyson thinks things would’ve been different had he faced Evander, “If he would’ve boxed me, I would’ve never tried to hurt him. It would’ve gone eight rounds or 10 rounds, but it would’ve been really exciting, you know. I mean, they’re doing well, fighting hard, he didn’t get hurt, but that’s my intentions.”

“Well things happen. But you know, keep your ears open because you’ll be surprised by other things you hear,’ he said. “There’ll be a lot of surprises coming this fall and winter.”
