Floyd Mayweather believes that athletes should not depend on big multinational brands in order to earn money. Mayweather is one of the most decorated boxers of all time and has finished his career undefeated with an untouchable 50-0 record.
However, Mayweather’s legacy revolves a lot around the money he has made throughout his career. Starting from nothing, the fighter went on to make billion of dollars and surprisingly without major brand sponsorships.
While talking about it during an interview, Mayweather mentioned that he believes in his own brand as he doesn’t want to be controlled by others. According to the retired boxer, he has never made any deal with big brands but was still able to make all that money as it doesn’t change anything.
“I believe in having my own brand so no one can mute me out, I believe in standing on my own two feet. I have never had a deal with a major shoe brand but I still was able to make over a billion dollars. So, you don’t need nobody but yourself. We all got a choice and we wake up with a choice everyday,” said Mayweather.
“We have to stop always thinking that we need certain brands to solidify us,” continued Mayweather. “I have my own brand and I have the best guys that were with major brands. Even like Pacquiao, he was signed to Nike but that’s not gonna change the outcome.”
The fighter also gave an example of him defeating Manny Pacquiao who was back then signed with Nike but still lost. It’s clear that the legendary boxer isn’t a fan of top athletes signing up with big brands.
Why Floyd Mayweather doesn’t have big sponsorship deals like other top athletes around the world

Floyd Mayweather has made over 1 billion dollars throughout his professional career and, shockingly, every dime of that money has come from boxing, unlike others who depend on big sponsorship money.
Mayweather during his fighting days was the king of PPV sales and a lot of it came from his personality. Mayweather made his image by flaunting his wealth and being unapologetic with his choice of words.
Along with that, Mayweather in the past has found himself being guilty of multiple domestic abuse cases. In 2012, Mayweather was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a domestic violence charge. This was following a physical altercation with ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris. No big brands will want to collaborate with someone with such an image.
On top of all that, Mayweather just doesn’t need these brands in order to make money. While other athletes use sponsorship of big brands to make money, the 46-year-old was always focused on making his own brand.
