It’s not unusual for celebrities and athletes to donate their earnings to charitable organizations. In this case, Manny Pacquiao decided to give back to the community by providing shelter to those in need in his home country of the Philippines. Furthermore, Pacquiao has had a great career and is the only person to become an eight-division champion in boxing. Hence, across his career, Pacquaio grew his net worth to $220 million. Subsequently, Pacquiao earned about $120 million from his fight of the century with Floyd Mayweather.

The former world champion and Philippine Senator revealed that the proceeds of his career are being used to build homes. Pacquiao used $1.5 million to purchase hectares of land and constructed two-bedroom homes in the Sarangani and General Santos city. Subsequently, Manny Pacquiao did this for the needy in the Philippines and gave the homes for free to the poor. While addressing this Pacquiao stated on social media:

I’m so happy giving these houses free to my constituents in the Sarangani Province from my own pocket. More than one thousand families are the beneficiaries.

After the fight of the century, Pacquiao was the second highest-paid athlete in 2015 after losing to Mayweather. Subsequently, Mayweather earned $300 Million from the bout but Pacquiao earned about $120-150 Million which he used for building homes. Pacquiao has suffered several hardships and financial troubles in his youth and empathise with the underprivileged in his community.

Hence, Pacquiao continues to help the needy however he can and improve people’s lives for the better. Furthermore, it is worth noting that his rival Mayweather also often uses his wealth to support and help people.

Manny Pacquiao and Dustin Poirier build homes in Uganda

Dustin Poirier‘s philanthropic efforts have been well-documented throughout his career. One of the most well-known of his philanthropic endeavors was when he partnered with Pacquiao to build 32 2-bedroom homes. Furthermore, Poirier and Pacquiao with their charitable organizations are building homes in Uganda to benefit the Batwa Pygmies.

Hence, the Good Fight Foundation and the Manny Pacquiao Foundation came together with the objective of building homes on 43 acres of land. Additionally, after his victory in UFC 264, Poirier even gave a shot out to Pacquiao in his post-fight cage interview. Subsequently, Poirier and Pacquiao started this project with an individual $50,000 donation through their respective charity foundations.

In addition, all construction work is carried out by local contractors and workforce. Other goals of the campaign include building a school for local children, a medical clinic, and a pharmacy. Furthermore, two additional water towers will be constructed to supply water to 3,000 citizens in and around the community.
