Artur Beterbiev went into the January 13 fight against Callum Smith as one of the favorites to win. Subsequently, the fight didn’t break expectations, as the Russian knocked out Smith in the seventh round. Hence, Beterbiev successfully defended his WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight titles against the former super-middleweight champ. Furthermore, Beterbiev was able to extend his undefeated record and knockout streak to 20-0 via 20 KOS. 

From the start, Smith tried to keep the action in the middle of the ring and attempted to set the pace. However, the champion kept him on the ropes for most of the fight. Smith was able to do some damage with his powerful jab, which kept the Russian-Canadian on the defensive. Artur Beterbiev, however, was at his best when he was able to close the distance.

As the fight went on, the champion upped the ante and found more and more success closing the distance. In the 7th round, Beterbiev knocked Smith down with a vicious right hand and then followed with a series of straight shots to get the knockdown that he needed. Smith was able to beat the Referee’s count even though this was his first knockdown in his professional career.

The champion followed it up by getting the second knockdown, and that was the end of it. Hence, Beterbiev won the bout via a seventh-round KO and retained his WBO, WBC, and IBF light heavyweight titles. 

Fans react to Artur Beterbiev’s victory

Beterbiev defeated Smith after seven brutal rounds to keep his WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles in Canada. Smith had never lost a fight in his career, but Beterbiev knocked him down twice in the 7th round to keep his 100 percent knockout ratio.

After Smith went down for the second time in round seven, his trainer stepped in to end the fight. After Beterbiev’s dominant performance, fans reacted by stating, “The most destructive boxer in the world isn’t Wilder or Gervonta Davis; it is Artur Beterbiev.”
