Mexican fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez is looking for his next opponent after defeating super middleweight fighter John Ryder. Cruiserweight champion Badou Jack was one of the fighters on Canelo’s radar for his next bout. Badou had announced that the Mexican fighter had a number of conditions for the bout and rejected the offer. However, a clip from Badou’s interview with Mike Tyson’s podcast has fans thinking the ripper is ducking Alvarez.
After dominantly defeating John Ryder, Canelo wanted to pursue a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, who defeated Alvarez in their previous bout. While Canelo wanted to fight with the same conditions at 175 lbs, Bivol had different plans. The Russian fighter wanted to contest at 168 lbs for Canelo’s belts. Due to this, both fighters never reached an agreement and Canelo started looking for other opponents. Badou Jack, who previously fought at 175 lbs and now fights at 200 lbs, was one of the potential opponents.
Canelo suggested a bout with Badou at a catch weight of 180 lbs, 20 lbs below the cruiserweight limit. He also added a rehydration clause in the deal that would prevent Badou from regaining too much size. The cruiserweight champion felt the conditions were a bit excessive and put him at a disadvantage. Hence Badou Jack rejected the fight with Canelo. However, according to a clip of Badou’s appearance on Mike Tyson’s podcast in 2021, he agreed to fight Canelo at 175 lbs.
Mike Tyson questioned Badou about why is he not fighting Canelo Alvarez, who was at the time-fighting at 168lbs. To this Badou replied he would gladly fight Canelo at 175 lbs given the money is right. This statement from Badou’s past interview has led fans to believe the cruiserweight champion might be ducking Canelo.
Fans react to Badou Jack’s past statement on fighting Canelo Alvarez

After failed negotiations of a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, Mexican fighter Canelo Alvarez is looking for a replacement. The top picks in consideration for this fight were Jermall Charlo and Jack Badou. However, Badou has completely shut down the possibility of a bout with Canelo due to ridiculous demands.
Jack found the weight difference and hydration clause too much and rejected the fight. However, a resurfaced clip from Badou’s interview with Mike Tyson shows the fighter ready to fight a 168 lbs Canelo only if he moved up to 175. Canelo, as of now, is still the undisputed champ at 168 lbs and wants to fight Badou at 180 lbs. Yet, Jack wants the Canelo fight at 200 lbs and won’t budge from his decision.
The resurfaced video and Badou’s hesitancy to fight Canelo have led fans to believe he is avoiding the fight. Fans have taken to Twitter and shared their response. Many fans believe the Ripper was simply making up excuses to avoid a fight with Canelo. However, a lot of fans believe Canelo is in the wrong as well. With Badou out of the picture, Canelo has Jermall Charlo to look out for. A potential matchup between the two at 168 lbs can be highly expected.
