Conor Benn has been absent from the boxing ring for more than a year due to a grueling process of proving his innocence following two failed drug tests, which ultimately led to the cancellation of his bout against Chris Eubank Jr.
The 26-year-old fighter was originally scheduled to go head-to-head with Chris Eubank Jr. in a high-profile continuation of their well-known family rivalry in October last year. However, the fight was called off after two tests showed unfavorable results for Benn. Following his exoneration by UK Anti-Doping, promoter Eddie Hearn wasted no time in arranging another match for him in the United States this weekend.
Benn will compete against Mexican Rodolfo ‘Sinaloita’ Orozco in the co-main event of the Richardson Hitchins vs. Jose Zepeda fight at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. “I am undefeated in the ring, and in spirit,” Benn said during the press conference today announcing the fight.
The British fighter is still negotiating a fight at 160 pounds against Eubank Jr. after being granted a license to fight in the UK. The match will take place at super-welterweight.
Conor Benn talks about his opponent and his upcoming gameplan
Following his comeback announcement, Conor Benn looked confident and revealed that people wanted him to fail but he has bounced back from the bottom. With a perfect 21-0 record, professional boxer Benn is currently unbeaten. 14 of the victories were achieved via the 26-year-old’s knockout.
On the other side, his future rival, Rodolfo Orozco, has a record of 32-3-3 overall. Before their fight on September 23, Benn mentioned Orozco and said that he was more concerned with his own qualities than those of his opponent.
Talking about his opponent, Benn mentioned that he intends to enter the ring and execute his own strategy. His main priority lies in his own abilities and what he can accomplish, rather than dwelling on his opponent’s attributes or actions.
