Canelo Alvarez‘s relationship with Oscar De La Hoya has only gone from bad to worse. At one point, they were close as De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions represented Alvarez. However, after several disputes, the Mexican boxing superstar split with the promotion. This caused them to have a war of words ever since then, and Alvarez recently sent De La Hoya a furious response to his comments.

Currently, Alvarez is set to fight Golden Boy’s Jaime Munguia on May 4. As such, they had a press conference for the fight, which De La Hoya later called boring. The promoter also remarked that it was boring, similar to Alvarez’s fights. Canelo did not appreciate these comments and responded with a crude remark.

I think it's the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life, and that's what Oscar is.

Alvarez did not mince his words and stated that De La Hoya said stupid things. He also called his remarks stupid because those were his public remarks about the press conference that featured his fighter, Munguia. Hence, Alvarez suggested De La Hoya had petty behavior to attack him numerous times over the years.

In addition, the Mexican boxing superstar stated that Oscar De La Hoya solely relies on such stupid things to gain attention. Furthermore, he suggested De La Hoya repeatedly made such stupid public comments as a promoter. Alvarez’s response indicates the duo might never squash their beef. De La Hoya might regret all his trash talk if his fighter fails to defeat Canelo on May 4.

Canelo Alvarez reveals why he decided to fight Munguia

Alvarez cannot seem to have avoided discussions about why his fight with David Benavidez has not happened till now. However, the super-middleweight champion has provided the same stance about it. As such, Alvarez believed he reached a point in his career where he didn’t have to prove himself anymore.

This allowed Alvarez to make decisions based on the best interests of his career before it ended. Initially, Canelo mentioned that he did not prefer to fight Mexican boxers. However, after announcing his fight with Munguia, people called him a hypocrite and accused him of ducking Benavidez.

Canelo Alvarez spoke about this and clarified that he does not prefer fighting Mexican fighters. Subsequently, Canelo stated the fight with Munguia was good for Mexico as it would happen on Cinco de Mayo weekend. This did not settle fans’ allegations that Benavidez is also a Mexican fighter, and their fight would have been bigger. Either way, Munguia is a worthy opponent and could shock the boxing world in less than a month.
