Since boxing was contested under the London Prize rules till now, the sport has seen several greats witness the ring. Regardless of the weight classes, many fighters have made their mark in boxing’s history. One such fighter who has achieved a lot of accolades himself is Canelo.
Regardless of your opinion on Alvarez, it is certain that the Mexican will be inducted into the hall of fame when he retires from the sport. The boxer has done everything right in his career and has won multiple championships across four weight classes. Along with this impressive stat, Alvarez unified titles in three of those weight classes. He holds notable wins over Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and Amir Khan to name a few.
While Alvarez is a legend in his own right, the Mexican looks up to Muhammad Ali, who is often regarded as the greatest of all time. Canelo Alvarez once revealed that he wished to become like the 1960 Rome Olympics gold medal winner.

Concerning the same, Canelo Alvarez is no different. Alvarez once spoke very highly about Ali and said he wished to become like him. The Mexican boxer said, “Everybody knows Muhammad Ali [he’s] the best, for me, in history. Because he has everything, power, speed, move, intelligence. “I hope [to be like Al], I want, I want [to become] the No. 1 in history.” (H/T International Business Times)

It is heartwarming to see Alvarez hold Ali in such high regard. While the boxer is still competing and active, it will be interesting to see if the Mexican will reach the stature Ali had.
