“He DESERVES a lot of credit,” Chael Sonnen reacts to Jake Paul setting himself up against Anderson Silva in next professional bout
Jake Paul- Anderson Silva
Chael Sonnen has finally reacted to Jake Paul’s potential opponent to be likely Sonnen’s former rival, Anderson Silva and Sonnen couldn’t be more impressed with what the Youtuber-cum-boxer is doing to elevate his career. Sonnen is a retired fighter who has fought in major MMA promotions throughout his 2-decade old career such as the UFC, Bellator MMA, WEC, Pancrase and Bodog. Sonnen is currently a sports analyst for ESPN MMA and a presenter for Eagle FC.
Sonnen’s greatest rivalry was the one against middleweight great Anderson Silva. Though Sonnen lost twice, the buildup of the fight was completely unique in the world of MMA, bad blood had never been constructed so masterfully as this to sell the fight before. Not only in trash-talking, but Sonnen turned out to be good at performing as well. His first fight with Silva was the Brazilian’s toughest title win in his UFC career. Silva is into boxing these days and has been 2-0 so far with wins over the likes of UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz and former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Chael Sonnen believes Jake Paul is possessing much more courage and willingness to get things done
In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Sonnen reacts to Jake Paul’s opponent being Anderson Silva, so far unofficially. Sonnen complimented the work done in the field of boxing by both men but it was Paul that impressed Sonnen magnificently in his eyes. So far, the date for the fight just like its finalisation is only rumoured to be October 29 and the rumoured location is Pheonix, Arizona as per boxing journalist Michael Benson.
“I think that Jake Paul deserves a lot of credit, I really do,“ says Sonnen “He is proving himself by signing the contract to fight Anderson Silva. It puts you in a different category… of courage and what you’re willing to do. Jake does not have enough experience, to go and step in there with a multi-time world champion…” continued Sonnen.
What do you make of Sonnen’s appreciation for Paul to pick up a fight against a legend in Silva? Who do you think will win once this fight gets finalised? Where do you put Silva amongst the greatest MMA fighters of all time? Where do you put Paul amongst the most influential people of this era? Within just 5 bouts, Paul has secured wins over the likes of former MMA champions, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. In the prime of his MMA career, Silva was known for his wins over the likes of Sonnen, Forrest Griffin, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, Vitor Belfort and many more.
