Fans have always been excited to see Gervonta Davis’s fights, but not this time around. It is reported that he is interested and in talks to fight Conor Benn. Benn recently extended his professional record to 23-0 after his unanimous decision victory over Peter Dobson. Hence, after the main event fight, Benn took to social media and called out a few opponents.
Benn announced a few potential opponents for this next fight, and Davis responded to the tweet since he wasn’t on the list. As such, both of them had an interesting back-and-forth on social media and expressed their intent to fight each other. Gervonta Davis responded to his tweet by stating that he would require a 3-week tune-up to fight Benn. In addition, Davis made this comment after witnessing his performance against Dobson. Subsequently, Benn responded:
Oh, here he is, the woman beating Munchkin from Oz! Let’s do it next.Conor Benn via X
Benn responded to Davis by throwing shade at him, bringing up his history of domestic violence, and expressing his intent to fight. Furthermore, Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has also confirmed that the fight might take place and has even reached out to Davis.
As such, Davis even uploaded his DMs with Hearn, in which the promoter asked Davis about his intent to pursue the fight. Subsequently, Davis stated that he wished to move forward with it. However, fans don’t appear to be satisfied with this matchup and are still demanding that he fight Haney.
Gervonta Davis fight with Devin Haney
Davis’s last fight was against Ryan Garcia and was one of the most significant boxing events of 2023. However, it doesn’t appear that Davis has a fight scheduled for 2024 for now. As the reigning WBA lightweight champion, Davis is considered by some to be the world’s best lightweight.
Furthermore, this is especially true after the departure of Devin Haney, who held several titles in the division. However, ‘Tank’ is often criticized for his lack of action and his unwillingness to fight other big-name opponents. As such, it looks like the fight with Haney might be out of the question.
This is because Haney stepped down from lightweight to focus on super-lightweight success. Whether Davis’ reaction to Benn’s challenge will ever come to light remains to be seen, as little information has been made public about the Americans’ next fight.
In case you missed it!
