After the official announcement on Tuesday by Showtime of a boxing match between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva, Twitter exploded with reactions. The matchup was being rumoured about for a while now and it was finally announced yesterday.
Although the match has become a polarized topic among many fans, there’s no doubt that it will attract a lot of eyeballs. As fans would tune in to watch if Anderson Silva could defeat the YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul or vice versa.
Paul after a successful YouTube carrier turned pro in boxing. Since turning pro he has had five fights, but he is still undefeated. However, many argue that he hasn’t faced a true boxer and has only fought retired MMA guys. He was scheduled to fight a professional boxer Hasim Rahman Jr in Aug but the bout was cancelled.
On the other hand, After dominating the UFC’s Middleweight division Silva hung up his gloves and announced his retirement from MMA. After retiring from MMA, he transitioned to Boxing and fought for the first time in the ring in 2021. He took on the former UFC Light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. Silva knocked out cold Ortiz in less than two minutes of the bout.

Following the official announcement by Showtime yesterday about the bout being confirmed, Twitter exploded with reactions. Some called it an obvious move for the Problem Child as he only faces retired and old MMA Guys. Others pointed out the former UFC champion’s recent performance and stated that it will be the toughest test for the former YouTuber.
Some also pointed out to the social media buzz the announcement has created and stated that this will be one of the biggest fight in terms of eyeballs. The crossover appeal is also very evident as the Spider is a legend in MMA and has dominated the UFC’s Middleweight division for a very long time.

The Problem Child and the Spider will meet in the ring in an eight-round fight at a catchweight of 187 pounds on Oct. 29 in Phoenix, Arizona.
