Manny “PacMan” Pacquaio is considerably one of the most prominent names in the spectrum of boxing. The Filipino became the first pro-boxer in the world in 2009, to win world titles in 7 weight divisions. Pacquaio, who once faced Floyd Mayweather has also served as Senator of the Philippines from 2016 – 2022. The boxer has very recently weighed in on a possible return, under specific conditions. Conversely, he was a prime topic of interest for comedian Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle, with his Filipino spouse Elaine, is no stranger to the culture; which he additionally invokes in his comedy. Which is a common trend for most comedians. He is also an avid fan of boxing itself. He was ringside for Pacquaio’s matchup against 50-0 legend Floyd Mayweather in 2015. Speaking on Asian perspectives and on anti-gay commentary Pacquaio had made, here’s what he had to say:
Manny Pacquaio said some outlandish sh*t about gay people. Very, very not nice things I won’t repeat, but it was biblical verses and some analogies to animals. It wasn’t a good look. Nike took his shoes immediately, which I thought was a little harsh, a little harsh, you know what I mean, because, just because he’s Asian.Dave Chappelle via his standup comedy

The comedic skit was part of Netflix’s three-part comeback series entitled The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at The Hollywood Palladium. After foregoing a $50 Million contract with Comedy Central in 2005, this was Chappelle’s comeback. In a prime “roast” on Asians (and Pacquaio) he even nudged America bombing away their sense of masculinity (all puns intended). Thus making them revert to “Hello Kitty” and Neo-Chibi culture.
Chappelle had lauded Mayweather for having the “greatest run in boxing,” in light of his various victories. Significantly though, there were unsubstantiated rumors of an epic rematch showdown between him and Pacquaio recently.
Manny Pacquaio’s corner had asked Dave Chappelle to leave him be during training
Manny Pacquaio facing Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather was one of the prime events, etched in the history of professional boxing. Veteran promoter Bob Arum had already labeled titleholder Pacquaio as the greatest; as had others.
Meanwhile, Mayweather was a fast-rising undefeated storm that was not weathered so easily. Many celebrities were present ringside for the sensational boxing bout. This included Dave Chappelle.

Chappelle had always been an avid fan of boxing. He flew his family to Macao in 2013 to see Pacquiao face off with Brandon Rios. The comedian also went viral for interrupting a Nonito Donaire interview to have a photo with the Filipino pugilist, stating that it was for his sons.
As such, he is a die-hard fan of boxing culture even more. But back in the day, he was not allowed access everywhere.
Coach Freddie Roach had once barred him from Pacquaio’s training camp, before facing Mayweather. He reportedly did not want anybody to be aware of the boxer’s strategies. While the boxer himself posted updates on Instagram, no outside access was allowable during camp. This, thus included Chappelle.
