Devin Haney mentioned how abstaining from s*x weeks before his fight led to him having wet dreams. Haney is one of the most talented boxers in the world right now and holds the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.
Haney is undefeated with a professional record of 29-0 and like many boxers abstain from having s*x before his fights. While talking about the routine in an interview with Bradley Martyns, the champion revealed how he used to have no sex for eight weeks before the fight.
He said: “S*x wise. I do like three weeks four weeks for fight. I used to do 8 weeks, majority of my fights I used to do eight weeks. No s*x, no nothing. It got to the point to where I would have a wet dream or something like that.”
However, not having sex and keeping all that testosterone inside the body led him to have wet dreams the day before even the day of the fight. “When your body like throws up too much testosterone, it finds a way to release. Right before my fight, one day I had it like the day before my fight. One day I had the day of the fight, like a wet dream,” said Haney. Seems like the eight weeks routine didn’t work out that efficiently for Haney that’s why he now does only four weeks of no s*x before his fights.

As boxers, everybody wants to have a certain edge over his opponents and in order to get to that zone fighters have always tried different techniques, and having no s*x is one of them.
According to Haney, it’s something that has been there in boxing for years, and many legendary boxers have done that. The fighter also mentioned that it might not help him during the fight in terms of performance wise however, it definitely helps to build mental fortitude.
“That’s like an old rule of boxing, just an old thing. I have done it and it has been successful and I’ve had results from it. Not necessarily so like helpful with the performance I just think like mental,” said Haney.
Not all fighters believe in this practice as Haney revealed that there are fighters who prefer to have s*x right before the fight and it works for them so ultimately it’s a matter of choice.
