Francis Ngannou lost his second professional boxing bout when he fought Anthony Joshua. Furthermore, the fight ended with Ngannou facing a knockout loss for the first time in his combat sports career. A few days after the fight, Ngannou made some absurd claims, which caused Eddie Hearn to fire back at him.
As such, the Cameroonian claimed he did not feel himself before the fight, especially during it. Ngannou also bizarrely stated that he felt tired and practically fell asleep in the locker room. He then took things a step forward by suggesting he was tricked into coming to the venue early. Hence, this resulted in him feeling tired and lethargic just before the fight. This is what Hearn replied to the claims:
I don't think it mattered if he had 1% of energy or 99% of energy. He was still getting iced, and he got iced.Eddie Hearn via IFL TV
Further, Hearn dismissed Ngannou’s claims by pointing out that fighters were asked to come to the venue at a particular time. Eddie Hearn stated that some fighters liked to come three hours before the fight while others arrived one and a half hours ahead of the fight. Hearn stated that regardless of Ngannou’s energy, he would have faced a knockout defeat regardless.
It is only natural for Hearn to respond to Ngannou’s claims. Joshua performed very well and showed levels to Ngannou. ‘The Predator’ must have made the excuses to ensure another high-profile boxing bout. Losing via a devastating knockout in the second round after three knockdowns is not good. Hence, comments from either side remain understandable.
Eddie Hearn addresses claims of the knockout being stagged
During the interview with IFL TV, the interviewer told Hearn about some claims of a staged knockout. Both the interviewer and Hearn found the claim completely preposterous. Furthermore, Hearn said the knockout was one of the most brutal knockouts that he had ever seen.
In addition, he mentioned that when the punch landed on Francis Ngannou, it was heard even at the back of the arena. Hence, Hearn stated that the internet can have bizarre opinions at times. The Matchroom promoter also brought up how people slowed down the video at the exact moment the punch landed to prove that it was fake.
Hearn also mentioned how Ngannou admitted that he remembered the first punch, but his memory was hazy after that. As such, Hearn used this statement to justify that The Predator was completely out cold. The staged knockout claim remains ridiculous, and everyone saw the speed and power of Joshua for real.
