“Not a great look”- Eddie Hearn on why the $1 Million bet between Jake Paul and him fell through
Eddie Hearn with Jake Paul at the MSG
After a successful weekend of fights, Eddie Hearn was back on The MMA Hour show, hosted by Ariel Helwani. The promoter was there to speak of the massive success that was the Taylor-Serrano fight. A 10-Round epic that marked the first time women’s Boxing headlined a card held at the Theatre of Dreams, the Madison Square Garden.
Along with future prospects for his fighter Amanda Serrano, Hearn also talked about his developing relationship with his co-promoter Jake Paul.
In the build-up to the fight, Jake and Eddie made headlines when they each agreed to place $1 Million each on their fighters emerging victorious Saturday Night. Now Hearn has clarified that this deal was shattered almost immediately after the two got off stage. “I spoke to Sean Palmer, who’s our chief accountant,” said Hearn when asked by Helwani about who informed them the bet was not a possibility.
He continued, “When I came off the stage he was like, you know it’s not a great look, it’s very sort of a grey area of a promoter betting on the fight that he’s promoting.”

Hearn said the move didn’t reflect well on his integrity as a promoter, which lead him and Jake to come up with a different course of action. “We didn’t actually finalize anything but the last thing we talked about was if Katie lost I (Hearn) would have to go and spar with Jake,” said Hearn, who said they would even stream the sparring session for charity.
“If Katie won, I would send someone to spar Jake,” said Hearn hinting he had quite a few people in mind for the task. When asked by Helwani if he had anyone specific in mind, Hearn joked, “I was gonna send you” with Helwani replying with a chuckle followed by, “I’d be down” Hearn then suggested a realistic option to be former champion Tony Bellew who has had some disputes with Jake Paul in the past week.
Hearn ended the segment by reminding Jake that he was now in a world where “there is no conversation” and is “Strike on-site” referring to the fact that people in the boxing community might not take it as lightly as Jake’s youtube rivals have when it comes to disrespecting them and their families.
