Six months after losing her first fight, Katie Taylor is back in the winner’s circle with the biggest victory of her career. In a rematch, Taylor won by a majority decision against Chantelle Cameron after a 10-round bout. Six months ago, Cameron had won the match via a unanimous decision. Furthermore, after the fight, Eddie Hearn revealed a text message he received from Taylor, which initiated their prosperous partnership.
Taylor is now one of the most prominent figures in the sport of boxing. Taylor first contacted Matchroom boxing promoter Hearn in the month of October in 2016. This was shortly after she suffered a devastating loss at the Rio Olympic Games against Mira Potkonen of Finland.
In the message, Katie Taylor greeted Hearn cordially and apologized for reaching out unexpectedly. Subsequently, Taylor stated:
I've been seriously considering turning pro the last few months, I think I could do for women's pro boxing what I did for the amateur sport.
Hence, Taylor reached out to Hearn because she wanted to transition from being an amateur boxer to a professional boxer. Taylor stated that she can bring more focus and interest to women’s professional boxing the way she did with amateur boxing.
In addition, Taylor stated that she has a global reach and a great fan base but needs a great promoter to turn pro. Subsequently, Hearn replied to the message with great pleasure, and that is how they started working seven years ago.
Amanda Serrano reminds Eddie Hearn about his promise
Boxing fans have been eagerly waiting for the rematch between Taylor and Amanda Serrano since their first fight last year. Taylor and Hearn have both expressed their desire for Taylor’s next fight to be held at the renowned Croke Park. Especially, after Taylor avenged her first professional defeat to Cameron in their rematch on November 25.
Croke Park Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, is the home of the GAA, Ireland’s national governing body for sport. It is often referred to as Ireland’s national stadium and is the venue for many of Ireland’s major sporting events.
Subsequently, after Taylor’s recent victory, Hearn stated that her next opponent would be either Cameron or Serrano.
Furthermore, Serrano took notice of Hearn’s press conference statement and posted a tweet about Hearn’s promise. In addition, Serrano reminded Hearn that he had promised her that Taylor would fight her next at Croke Park.
