“Bite Up” Evander Holyfield sends his fierce rival Mike Tyson a birthday wish

Evander wishes mike a happy birthday

Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson had the most dramatic two-part fight series in the history of Boxing. Tyson, who seemed untouchable up to that point except for a slight hiccup against Buster Douglas would face off against Holyfield who himself seemed unstoppable apart from his losses to boxing great, Riddick Bowe.

The fight would go for the full 11 rounds where Holyfield would manage to secure a TKO victory over the WBA Heavyweight Champion. Their rematch is however the one that would go down in infamy when the two would square off again 6 months after their first encounter, however it would end unceremoniously when a frustrated Tyson would bite off a piece of Evander’s ear leading to him being disqualified.

Years later Tyson would reveal that this act came out of frustration more than anything else as he felt a sense of inadequacy due to him not being able to defeat the older heavyweight. While the two had an intense hatred for each other during the rest of their fighting careers they would make amends in retirement and even go on to make money by finding the humor in the incident.

The two were initially rumored to complete their trilogy in an exhibition bout however that came falling apart once questions of Evander’s well-being were raised. Tyson would instead face Roy Jones in his return to exhibition boxing. Holyfield meanwhile made his debut in exhibition fights at the age of 58 and would go on to be knocked out by former MMA champion, Vitor Belfort in the first round.
