Ex-UFC and NFL Star Greg Hardy wins boxing debut with a violent TKO

Greg Hardy in the UFC
Greg Hardy may have been one of the most controversial fighters at heavyweight in recent memory. Let alone his actions outside the octagon, even inside the steel cage, Hardy was a subject of controversy every time he walked through the tunnel.
Recently after suffering 3 brutal TKO losses in a row,Greg Hardy, having fought out his contract was not re-signed by the UFC and became a free agent. He decided to test his free agency by signing with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, an unreliable home for the fighters of the past.
While still signed to the org, Hardy also tested his luck with boxing and was prepared to make his debut on an 8th October card, under Black Sheep Promotions. In his debut, he’d face professional boxer Dyah Davis, who boasted a 25-4-1 record with 13 KOs.
The former NFL Defensive End and Mixed Martial Artist genuinely looked good in his squared circle debut. The closing sequence of the fight was published which shows Hardy connecting with a straight right followed by multiple hooks and ultimately earning the TKO with a leaping uppercut.

Will Greg Hardy ever return to the UFC?

Greg Hardy has expressed that he intends to give all aspects of combat a try before deciding where he would want to settle.
Hardy was let go by the UFC after he fought out his contract. Being on a three-fight losing streak, all via KO/TKO’s, Hardy barely had minuscule leverage in renegotiating his contract. His last fight for the UFC was against a rising heavyweight contender, Sergey Spivak, a fight he lost in the first round.
Even in his early UFC career, Hardy was the center of all controversy because of an event that was a first for the octagon. Infamously during his fight against Ben Sosoli, Hardy would bring out his inhaler, claiming it was “USADA approved. “ The fight l, though ended in victory for Hardy was later overturned to a no contest due to his use of the inhaler.

Moreover, there is the constant negative press that comes with association with Hardy. As it is now well documented, Hardy was released from the NFL due to allegations of domestic violence laid against him by an ex-girlfriend. While his suspension was considerably shortened, the NFL’s investigation came to the conclusion that “sufficient credible evidence” existed to prove Hardy’s guilt.
One of his more brutal KO losses at the hands of Tai Tuivasa, was topped off by Tuivasa’s repeated statements on why he enjoyed knocking out Hardy, the domestic voilence allegations against him.
Bearing all that negative coverage every time a fighter on a losing streak appears in front of cameras may have been too much of a hassle for the UFC and it is likely that Hardy never gets an opportunity to fight under the organization’s banner.
