“He’s gonna earn with Eddie Hearn” – Boxing fans hilariously troll Oscar De La Hoya for wanting to sign ‘free-agent’ Terence Crawford
With Errol Spence Jr. reportedly opting to undergo cataract surgery, Terence Crawford is now a free agent after a rematch clause expired.

Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford sits at the zenith of the sphere of boxing. So much so that he can threaten fans with retirement after greatness supposedly going ‘underappreciated’. Crawford made history by winning the undisputed welterweight title against Errol Spence, Jr. In doing so, he became the first/only male boxer to hold all 4 titles in 2 major weight classes. But the legend has now caught the attention of boxing promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.
Following his stoppage win over Spence Jr. last year, a contractual rehash was supposedly in the works. However, ESPN’s Mike Coppinger has led on that Terence Crawford is out of the fold and now a promotional free agent. Not exactly a usual Tuesday for PBC, considering even Canelo Alvarez has split recently. It should be noted that Crawford grounded Spence thrice in his outing.
With a shift in the streaming paradigm with Showtime Boxing and lopsided domination, it was thus an uphill task to book this rematch. In light of ‘Bud’ not signing yet as a free agent, De La Hoya thus shoots his shot. In 2002, he founded Golden Boy Promotions, which also owns a 25% stake in the Houston Dynamo. He is the first Mexican-American to own a national boxing promotion company.
With no current champions in the staple, GBP is thus keen on scoring big with Crawford. However, fans are not acclimating well with the notion. A prime reaction on X retorted – “Nah….He’s gonna Earn with Hearn.” The mention of promoter Eddie Hearn adds injury to insult. And that isn’t the only such response.
Fight fans react to Oscar De La Hoya’s proposition to Terence Crawford to hit him up
Terence Crawford currently has no strings specifically attached to either a promoter or network. The boxer recently split ways with the PBC outfit. He has been gunning for a mega fight against Canelo Alvarez but the latter hasn’t been very receptive. Now with Alzarez himself splintering away, so does ‘Bud’.
He is now in the sights of Oscar De La Hoya. ‘Golden Boy‘ goes viral often; from bizarrely ironing naked to him playing golf simulators in Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ jersey and underwear. Even his recent aspirations to fight UFC CEO, Dana White (on MMAFighting for SBN) were trolled by UFC bantamweight champ, Sean O’Malley.
Concurrently, his advances toward Terence Crawford saw a similar trolling –
Crawford’s career was under Top Rank promotion until his Nov. 2021 fight with Shawn Porter. In 2022, Crawford sued Hall of Fame promoter, Bob Arum‘s company for breaching the contract, claiming racial bias.
He then teamed with up-and-coming boxing prospect BLK Prime and knocked out David Avanesyan. Fans have jibed that ‘Bud’ would rather retire than sign on with De La Hoya, having had enough promotional troubles for a lifetime.
These come in light of De La Hoya and Ryan “King Ry” Garcia being at odds. Garcia’s attempt to face off with Rolly Romero/Isaac Cruz was met with De La Hoya’s curve ball at the superstar, pushing Romero vs. Ohara Davies next. Fans and even the likes of Romero chided such politics. Given such inter-promotional squabbles, fans are thus not set on Crawford signing on with him.
