Lomachenko incurred his third loss in his professional career in the highly anticipated lightweight bout. Locking horns with the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney, the Ukranian put up a good fight and went in tough toward the end. With a good age difference between the two fighters, 24-year-old Devin Haney had been chasing 35-year-old Lomachenko for a while now. They finally faced off in the boxing ring in what resulted in a very controversial decision win for Haney.

The young American champion went in hard right off the bat, and it took Vasiliy Lomachenko a few rounds to get used to Haney’s energy. The two fighters displayed high-quality boxing with calculated moves and professional counteracts. Lomachenko took up the pace with skilled combinations that threw Haney off, but he refused to back down.

It was a close bout, with the Ukrainian performing absolutely well in rounds ten and eleven. This is why when the judges declared Devin Haney the winner via unanimous decision, many fans declared it a robbery. The MGM Grand Garden Arena, filled with Lomachenko fans, booed down the decision.

Vasiliy himself didn’t take it very well. “I don’t want to talk about this. All people see what happened today. I can’t talk about this right now, it’s just not a comfortable moment for me,” he said. Lomachenko’s son had reportedly called him several times before the fight, rooting for his victory. He briskly headed back toward the dressing, where he broke down in tears. His team put a towel over his head to prevent the cameras from recording him crying.

Devin Haney absolutely rejoiced in his victory and showed respect to his opponent. “Lomachenko is a future Hall of Famer. It was a blessing,” he said. ” He was my toughest opponent by far. He is very crafty, and we put on a great fight for the fans.” The young American is now officially 30-0 with 15 knockouts to his name.

Vasiliy does not believe Haney deserves to be recognized as a pound-for-pound fighter. “Before, I thought he would be better,” he said. “He’s a tough fighter. He’s a good fighter. But he’s not a pound-for-pound fighter,” he said. Shakur Stevenson, who has challenged Lomachenko, may soon be seen inside the ring with the Ukrainian.
