Fans slam Stephen A Smith for allegedly disrespecting Errol Spence Jr after his loss against Terence Crawford.

Stephen A Smith believes Errol Spence Jr should consider retirement following his recent loss. After losing to Terence Crawford in a welterweight title unification fight this past weekend via ninth-round TKO, Spence suffered his first professional loss.

Most people in the combat sports community were startled by the style of the defeat. Spence, who had never been knocked down before, was not only outmatched but also beaten and bloodied by Crawford, who landed three knockdowns on the now-former three-belt welterweight champion.

It raised a lot of criticism for Spence after the fight but nothing came close to what popular sports reporter, Stephen A Smith had to say about Spence. “I believe that Errol Spence Jr. should consider retirement,” Smith said on First Take.

While Spence’s loss was surprising, Terence Crawford was, at least on that night, performing at a higher level. Smith’s over-the-top response is not something that the fans are experiencing for the first time.

Stephen A Smith is infamous for giving some of the most outrageous comments about athletes in the past. This time it was no different as he discredited Errol Spence Jr’s capabilities after his first-ever professional loss.

Is this a joke? He takes his first loss against an unbelievable talent and says he's done?

Disrespectful in every aspect.

Spence is unreal talent.

I will provide context. SAS is not saying this because of the loss but because he thinks the Major car crash & 2 other accidents is affecting Spence to the point he doesn’t know if spence can recover to be near the same level he once was

I don’t necessarily agree, but a loss like that will take a toll on Spence mentally. I don’t think he should take an immediate rematch. He should probably take a tune-up at 154 to get some confidence back before fighting Crawford again. I still think Crawford beats him 10 times…

Surprisingly, Smith’s comments received mixed reactions from fans with most of them blaming the commentator for being disrespectful. While there were few who agreed with Smith given the amount of punishment Spence took and how hard it can be for the fighter to comeback. Nevertheless,fans claimed that retirement is too far-fetched as it’s only one loss against the best fighter in the world.
