Rolando Romero recently lost the WBA Super Lightweight Championship to Isaac Cruz. Promoter Floyd Mayweather wrote him a beautiful paragraph of encouragement in the form of an Instagram caption. However, is Floyd Mayweather going to cut ties with Romero after this loss? Here is what happened:
After Romero’s loss to Cruz, Floyd Mayweather took to Instagram where he shared a picture of him and Romero. In the caption, Mayweather wrote a few lines telling him to work harder and not let defeat hold him back.
Hold your head up high! I’m incredibly proud of you for achieving the remarkable feat of becoming a 2-time world champion in less than 18 fights,... In this journey, we call life, you’ll win and you’ll lose, that’s the game... So remember, when people try to knock you down, don’t let it keep you there.Floyd Mayweather via Instagram
Under Mayweather’s promotion, Romero won two division world titles. However, it all came crashing down when he stepped into the ring to defend his title against ‘Pitbull’. Although of short stature, Cruz severely hurt Romero in the first round itself. Thereon, he dominated the ring until he finally knocked out Rolly in the eighth round.
Rumors of Mayweather deciding to drop Romero has been circulating online. This was Romero’s second loss in his last three fights. His other loss was against Gervonta Davis who was another one of Mayweather’s projects. Even if the boxing legend does cut off Romero, he should be fine financially, considering that his net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $2-$6 million.
Ryan Garcia claims he could have knocked out prime Floyd Mayweather
Ryan Garcia made another bold statement on a recent X space discussion. The young boxer claimed that he could have beaten Floyd Mayweather back in the 2010s when he was in his prime. Much like his recent statements online, this one took fans and critics by surprise.
The host of the X space had put forward a few names whom Garcia thought he could beat if they were in their prime. One of those names was Floyd Patterson. However, Ryan Garcia heard Floyd Mayweather and went on to say that he could have knocked out Floyd Mayweather even if he were in his prime.
‘Money’ is often considered one of the best boxers in recent times. He went through his professional career with fifty consecutive wins and fought everybody on the roster from Canelo Alvarez to Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather is 47 years old now and has retired from professional boxing although he is still fighting exhibition fights. Like most of Garcia’s claims over the past month, this one too seems unrealistic.
