“He is a multi millionaire now,” Floyd Mayweather unveils epic foresight of Gervonta Davis becoming a world champion one day

50-0 boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is a name that reverberates through the sport of boxing. The boxing veteran and multi-billionaire is known for his impeccable record and for imparting the same to others. One such prominent name is Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, under the wing of Mayweather Promotions. Back in 2022, Davis was steered away from a big fight.

The former WBC mandatory challenger instead faced Emmanuel Tagoe, under DAZN Boxing. At the end of his contractual period, the boxer took his exit from the promotions.

Davis has now left the company to venture out on his own. That is, guided by advisor Al Haymon Boxing Champions. Floyd Mayweather had credited himself with morphing the young boxer onto the path of a successful millionaire. But he has also recognized the talents of Davis, in no shortage of terms. In an interview on episode 111 of the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast”, he said:

Tank Davis came up to me when he was a kid...wanted an autograph. I signed this phone for him and told him "you'll be world champion someday, and I'll be your promoter". Years later, he was working with some people from our team, cause our team is huge. We got guys in DC, Baltimore, Philly, New York...all around. He won a few fights. I think he was alike 8 or 9, and 0. I told him - in under 24 months you will be world champion...Made the right moves, put him in the right position. He's a multi millionaire now...

Davis was at the top of the food chain at 27-0, 25 KOs when he left the promotion and training camp. Speaking on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast, Mayweather had said:

I’ve always been respectful. There’s nothing like taking a kid that come from the same background as you and helping them and putting them in a position to become to become a multi-millionaire...

With the resonated foresight of turning Davis into a champion, the fans have been less than happy. The consistent narration was that instead of matching tougher opponents, Mayweather played it safe. Names like Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Vasyl Lomachenko, and George Kambosos Jr. would have earned more gravitas to the young boxer’s name and career highlights.

Gervonta Davis fires back at Devin Haney, for critical denouncement of Shakur Stevenson

Shakur Stevenson‘s hard-fought and labored win over Edwin De Los Santos caught flack from boxer Devin Haney. At 21-0, and 10 KOs, Stevenson attained a three-division champion status with this stint. He now has five world title wins and one title defense bout at the super-featherweight weight division.

But his latest win had the mark of slow output, for which the boxer himself has publicly apologized. But his criticism by Haney has caught the eye of Gervonta Davis.

Fighting against Los Santos, Stevenson failed to connect, with scratchy strikes. With him leaning heavily towards fortifications, the match garnered some crowd-booing from the get-go. Additionally, Stevenson failed to achieve any double-digit punch outputs, for any of the 12 rounds in the boxing bout.

In Aug. 2023, the WBC declared the title vacant and named Haney champion-in-waiting. Leaving the title vacant and Stevenson seizing the moment as thus. This put some extra motivation for Haney to apply a taunt.

Taking to X, he criticized the fighter. In a follow-up tweet, The Dream denied avoiding the fight with Stevenson. Davis, in retort, set a similar notion for Haney.
