The founder of The Money Team (TMT), John Shahidi, claimed that Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather wouldn’t have taken a $15,000 deal with Reebok. This is because LeBron James made millions around the same time through his endorsements. Shahidi shared his success story and explained Floyd Mayweather’s growth in an Iced Coffee Hour podcast episode.

John Shahidi is considered a legend in Social Media Marketing. The man is also credited for being one of the first people to understand how the internet worked. He helped the likes of Justin Bieber, Usain Bolt, and Cristiano Ronaldo promote their brands for lucrative deals. To understand his brilliance, Mr. Shahidi stated that when he partnered with Mayweather to build his assets, he approached brands like Reebok for endorsements. Reebok only offered $15000 a month for Floyd Mayweather. He said, “There was no way I could take that deal to Floyd and expect him to agree when people like LeBron were getting much more from Nike.”

Brands didn’t want to associate themselves with the boxing legend because of his history with the Law. Floyd Mayweather had domestically abused people on multiple people by the year 2010. His reputation and character were questionable to the public. This discouraged brands from endorsing the fighter. To overcome such an issue, John Shahidi and his brother created the brand TMT for Mayweather.

This would be exclusively for Floyd and his endorsements. The company turned out to be a huge success. John Shahidi is doing something similar with the popular Youtube group NELK Boys. The brand generated over $70M in revenue in 2020. He has attended many seminars to impart his knowledge and expertise in the field still in its nascent stages.

Kobe Bryant and LeBron James mirrors Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather

A recent tweet by NBA Central claimed that an anonymous all-star guard had compared the two greats of Basketball with the two great boxers. The heated debate among NBA fans regarding the better baller between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James rages on, and the tweet becomes a new attempt to describe the relationship accurately. The theory by the guard is that, “You know you’re going to lose to both because they’re both great, but it’s going to hurt more to fight Tyson than Floyd. Floyd will beat you, but he’s not going to hurt you. That’s the feeling with LeBron“.

The idea is that Kobe’s ‘Mamba mentality’ actively intimidated his opponents on the court, while LeBron has an all-around skill set without intimidation. The opposing team doesn’t seem afraid of what LeBron can do at the last moment as they would be of Kobe and his presence on the court. Floyd Mayweather may have a better boxing record than anyone in history, but the fear Mike Tyson brought into the ring remain unparalleled.

This goes to say that the person you prove to be off the court has a psychological impact on your opponents when you’re on the court. Many athletes have displayed this in the past. Conor McGregor, Mike Tyson, and Usain Bolt are all examples of such an effect.
