Quite recently, Francis Ngannou took a momentous step in his career. The ex-UFC fighter who was roaming astray without a contract signed a lucrative partnership with the Professional Fighters League ( PFL ). The deal paved the way for his professional boxing debut, which has now been officially announced. In October this year, Ngannou will enter the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to face British professional boxer, Tyson Fury.
Francis Ngannou’s move to the boxing world is set to rewrite his financial story. He revealed in an interview on The MMA Hour. The contrast in earnings between his UFC fights and this upcoming boxing match is staggering, with Ngannou exclaiming, “It’s life-changing.” Compared to his UFC earnings, what he stands to make in this single boxing bout is poles apart. “…Compared to what I was making for my UFC fight, it’s day and night,” Francis says.
Ngannou revealed that the boxing payday would be more than what he accumulated throughout his entire UFC career. Even if we account for the contracts he turned down in the UFC, the disparity remains undeniable.
Earlier this year, Ngannou disclosed that the UFC tried to retain his services with an enticing offer. They proposed a sum of approximately $8 million to face Jon Jones at UFC 285. However, he turned down the opportunity due to the restrictions that came with the contract. But he also added that the offer wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed. The promotion’s tactics involved presenting a seemingly impressive figure, but the hidden clauses made the deal less appealing.
Francis Ngannou reveals rematch clause; speaks on naysayers and criticism
As the anticipation for the boxing super fight builds, speculation regarding Ngannou’s payday has been rife. However, Ngannou himself has chosen to keep the exact numbers under wraps. Reports suggest that his earnings could reach eight figures. But Ngannou neither confirms nor denies these estimates. He only assures fans that he won’t be leaving Saudi Arabia empty-handed.
In addition to the financial rewards, the fight carries the weight of a rematch clause. This has ensured that this showdown could very well be the beginning of an epic series of battles between Ngannou and Fury. “There is a potential rematch clause,” Ngannou revealed. “I don’t know exactly how to explain…, but yes, there’s a rematch inside there.“
Ngannou had faced a lot of criticism from peers and professionals alike when he left the easy. He was marked as greedy, unwise, and overly ambitious. However, the titan believed in himself and his worth, and now he sets to make history. “It’s the story of my life,” Ngannou said. “Everything that I have done, nobody has ever believed in me until it was done“. The world eagerly awaits the clash of these two titans, as Francis Ngannou embarks on a boxing journey that promises to bring him unprecedented financial success.
