Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has surprised fight fans by announcing an exhibition bout with Tyson Fury. The news is one of the biggest from the world of boxing and has fans anticipating “The Predator’s” boxing debut. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen was quick to make fun of the matchup during one of his interviews.
The fight announcement between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury is making waves in the combat sports world. Both Fury and Ngannou were supposed to fight each other long back when “The Predator” opted for free agency. However, Fury had other plans and ignored Francis for quite some time. ‘The Gypsy King’ was in talks to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title. However, that failed to materialize, and Usyk called out Fury for being too greedy.
In the end, Fury came back to Francis Ngannou and made him an offer for an exhibition bout. The news of the matchup had several fight fans unhappy as they considered it pointless. MMA veteran Chael Sonnen also ripped the matchup calling it the most ridiculous sporting event of his lifetime. He even made sure that his point gets through using NBA icons Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.
“Take the Lakers and the real Lakers right back when they had the guy named Shaq and Kobe Bryant. Go put them against Brady and the Patriots. You got these great teams, but you’re going to go do it under football rules. Do you see how stupid it is? Do you see why it’s never happened? That’s what’s happening here,” said Sonnen. While Sonnen lashed out at the matchup he was still happy for Ngannou and his huge payday. However, that did not stop him from insulting Tyson Fury.
Chael Sonnen rips Tyson Fury and calls him a scumbag for fighting Francis Ngannou
Tyson Fury recently announced his exhibition bout with Francis Ngannou. The bout will take place on October 28th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With many excited to witness Francis Ngannou’s boxing debut, the event is certainly making headlines. However, many have also criticized Tyson Fury for picking an easier fight instead of actually defending his title.
Former UFC fighter and MMA legend Chael Sonnen is not impressed with Fury. Sonnen has been a huge fan of the ‘Gypsy King’ but his recent choices are very upsetting according to the veteran fighter. During one of his interviews, Sonnen even went as far as to call Fury a scumbag and a bully for fighting Francis Ngannou.
“You take a guy like Fury, who God made huge, gave great coaches, great training partners, great experiences, too. He has weapons and tools that other men can’t deal with if they’re not armed. He’s going to choose to use those to beat up a guy who’s at least 37 with no experience and is on one leg. That’s a bully and it’s a scumbag,” said Sonnen. Chael is not the only one who was let down by Fury. The Gypsy King’s fans have also started to switch sides as the WBC heavyweight champion avoids fighting a legitimate contender in the heavyweight division.
