The UFC’s new bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, has called out super-lightweight champion Gervonta Davis for a crossover boxing match. Davis was the headlining act at T-Mobile Arena after his KO win over Ryan Garcia. Furthermore, the fight yielded 1.2 million pay-per-view buys and generated over $22 million in box office revenue.
Subsequently, O’Malley was recently crowned bantamweight champion after his KO victory over Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292. Their fight generated over $7 million, and Dana White stated that it’s the highest-selling PPV in the division’s history. O’Malley wishes to secure a higher payday by fighting Davis in a potential crossover fight. Furthermore, many people have been discussing the possibility of the fight in a boxing ring. In addition, Davis has responded to the O’Malley challenge and is willing to fight in the Octagon potentially. Davis stated, “If they pay me enough like that, which I’m comfortable with, I’ll fight an MMA fight. “
Hence, if the deal is lucrative enough, Davis is up for a mixed martial arts bout against O’Malley. Professional boxers are typically hesitant to enter the Octagon, so this is a rare occurrence. In the past, when professional boxers were matched up against MMA fighters, they did not do well.
Davis has no experience in MMA, but he is confident he can handle himself. Furthermore, Davis stated that since he is from ‘the hood,’ he has some experience dealing with kicks and wrestling.

Gervonta Davis’s next potential opponent
Davis has already had two fights this year, against Hector Luis Garcia in January and Ryan Garcia in April. Subsequently, Davis spent 44 days in prison in June after violating his home detention order. Davis was released from prison in July after the charges were dealt with. Davis and his fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the ring.

There have been rumors about a potential rematch bout between Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz or a fight with Keith Thurman. However, these rumors are the result of internet trolls, and they do not have a credible source. In his tweet, Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza stated that the rumors are not true. Subsequently, he urged fans not to believe the news they read without a credible source.
Furthermore, in an interview with The Rize Podcast, Davis’s trainer, Calvin Ford, stated that something big is coming. Ford stated that he cannot reveal the details yet, but once it is official, it will shock the world.
