Ryan Garcia faces Oscar Duarte on Dec. 2nd at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The fight, as well as the undercard action, will air on DAZN around the world. Coming off a skid to Gervonta Davis seven months ago, the 23-1 Californian is ready to prove the doubters wrong. In the lead-up, acquaintance and promoter Oscar De La Hoya has instigated a feud with a fan, recently.
In the last Davis headliner in Las Vegas, Garcia’s fractious relationship with his promoter was on full display. The two have been on better amicable terms though, since then. The current online feud came at the cost of a fan giving critical input on De La Hoya’s undercard action for the bout featuring Ryan Garcia. The fan publicly tweeted that the undercard was unfavorable. The “Golden Boy” took offense. He immediately retorted in a reply tweet, saying:
Watch it on @daznboxing and if it sucks I'll meet you whenever so you can tell it to my face...
Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. is an American boxing promotional company based in L.A., California. The combative promotion was founded in 2002 by eight-time world champion (six divisions) De La Hoya, who borrowed the moniker “Golden Boy” from himself. The Mixed Martial Arts promotion marks many prominent names and fight cards. De La Hoya, thus naturally took offense.
Duarte, 26-1-1, 21 KO, moves up from the lightweight division to face Garcia in the main event. Meanwhile, his opponent is in desperate need of a win to counter his recent slide. Davis on the other hand, has disregarded a call for a rematch, previously.
Oscar De La Hoya hypes up the Dec. 2 Ryan Garcia vs. Oscar Duarte card
Golden Boy has set the undercard for the return of “King” Ryan Garcia matchup. He will face dangerous knockout artist Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte in a super lightweight bout. Instead of Golden Boy Promotions picking a 140-pounder for the 25-year-old to fight, they’re playing it safe by pulling Duarte out of the 135lbs division and hoping that things go well.
Despite that being the consensus, the fight has already garnered a lot of hype. Adding to the hype is Oscar De La Hoya himself. Recently, Garcia and the promoter have reunited once again, after an ugly spat.
London’s Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies headlines the co-main event. He makes his debut as a Golden Boy fighter against “El Tigre”, Venezuela’s Ismael Barroso, in a 12-round WBA super lightweight interim title bout.
World lightweight champ and rising star Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield plays a title defense against Mexico’s Ricardo “Explosivo” Torres in a ten-round bout. Correspondingly, La Hoya has hyped it all up in a tweet video.
Golden Boy Fight Night: Garcia vs. Duarte Prelims will be streamed on its YouTube Channel. To start off, it features a four-round super bantamweight fight. This is thus succeeded by the rest of the card.
