Former UFC welterweight fighter Mike Perry has expressed interest in being the backup fighter for the upcoming boxing match between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul. Perry, known by his nickname “Platinum,” specifically reached out to Diaz, who hails from Stockton, California, offering to step in if Paul decides to withdraw from the bout unexpectedly.
After having 15 UFC fights, Mike Perry signed a contract in October 2021 to compete in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) for three fights. Over the course of his BKFC career, the 31-year-old emerged victorious in all three bouts. He secured victory against notable fighters such as Michael Page from Bellator and Luke Rockhold, a former UFC middleweight champion, in his most recent two matches.
Considering his performance in the BKFC, Perry thinks his resilience as a fighter could be a good fit as a replacement/backup opponent for a tough fighter like Nate Diaz. In his tweet, Perry said, “I should be the back-up fighter in case @jakepaul doesn’t show up to fight @NateDiaz209.”
The upcoming boxing showdown between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz is scheduled for August 5, 2023. This event will serve as Nate Diaz’s first professional boxing match after his successful career as a UFC welterweight star. He will be facing Jake Paul, who has a professional boxing record of six wins and one loss, in addition to being a popular YouTuber. Both Paul and Diaz have swapped allegations of fear and have declared firmly that their opponent will withdraw from the bout.
