Mike Tyson, a former heavyweight champion, weighed in on the ongoing debate over Canelo Alvarez’s endorsement of David Benavidez. This accusation has been going on for years since Benavidez demanded this fight. However, Alvarez has often claimed that he does not need to prove himself and claims to be the king of boxing. Regardless, fans have wished to witness the two Mexican boxing stars fight inside the ring.

Furthermore, Alvarez was recently offered two deals by the PBC to fight either Jaime Munguia or Benavidez. As such, Alvarez decided on the $35 million fight with Munguia over the $60 million fight with Benavidez. Hence, Alavarez’s refusal to fight David Benavidez in a big-money fight made him receive a lot of backlash from fans.

Tyson also commented on this and stated,

Tyson expressed his astonishment that Alvarez turned down such a huge fight and chose to avoid exchanging blows with Benavidez. Furthermore, Tyson questioned if Alvarez wanted to be on the same list of great Mexican champions who fought everyone. Tyson also stated that if he were in the Mexican shoes, he would fight Benavidez to prove himself.

Subsequently, Tyson mentioned that Alvarez’s avoiding fighting Benavidez is shameful for boxing and Mexico. In addition, he further stated that Alvarez is a great fighter with a lot of talent, but insisted that lacks courage and heart.

David Benavidez was willing to fight Canelo Alvarez for $5 million

After Alvarez announced that he would be fighting Munguia next, Benavidez announced that he would move up to the light-heavyweight division. Even though Benavidez is a mandatory challenger for Alvarez’s titles, the fight is not materializing. Hence, this led Benavidez to move up a weight class to cement his legacy differently.

Furthermore, Benavidez recently mentioned that he was willing to fight Alvarez for $5 million while Alvarez would receive $60 million. Many people believe that Benavidez has been calling out Alvarez for years to secure a huge payday. However, the former has now put an end to these claims, stating that his fight with Alvarez was not about the money.

Benavidez also stated that he has been earning a lot of money with PBC and does not require a big payday. Hence, Benavidez wanted to fight Alvarez to prove who was the better fighter, but sadly, the fight did not materialize.
