Francis Ngannou‘s journey stands as a testament to his unwavering determination. It is a path paved with extraordinary challenges. Hailing from the impoverished town of Cameroon, Ngannou’s journey to the top of the fight game is truly inspirational. He narrated it to Mike Tyson in a recent livestream of Tyson’s podcast.
Ngannou clung fiercely to a dream that compelled him to leave Cameroon in pursuit of a brighter future. His journey, however, was marred by a series of false starts. Advancing to Algeria, he encountered relentless setbacks, including being stranded in the unforgiving Sahara desert.
After eventually reaching Europe, Ngannou faced incarceration for illegally crossing the Morocco-Spain border by sea. Upon his release, he sought refuge in France. However, devoid of financial resources, he was forced to endure nights of sleeping on the unforgiving streets of Paris. Mike Tyson playfully intervened asking,” How did you wash… your a**?”
Francis Ngannou’s dream of a fighting career is still burning brightly. Initially harboring dreams of becoming a boxer, Ngannou eventually redirected his focus toward the world of MMA. His debut fight, held in November 2013, marked the inception of an extraordinary journey. Securing a UFC contract in 2015, Ngannou ultimately became the UFC Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Stipe Miocic in 2018 at UFC 220.
Mike Tyson training Francis Ngannou for upcoming fight against Tyson Fury
Francis Ngannou will face heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury later this year. What adds a strategic twist to this match is that Ngannou is under the tutelage of legendary boxer Mike Tyson himself. The former is stepping into the boxing ring for the first time. Thus, he won’t have a shot at Tyson Fury’s coveted world title. The odds heavily favor Fury, casting a long shadow over Ngannou’s chances.
Mike Tyson firmly believes that this bout will be far more challenging than people realize. “I truly believe it’s going to be a tougher fight than anyone expects,” he commented. The news of Mike Tyson joining Ngannou’s training camp, which came about just a few weeks ago, has generated a great deal of excitement. Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou are set to fight later this year in October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
