Canelo Alvarez put on a clinical performance to defeat the British boxer John Ryder via a decision. After putting on a dominant performance, Canelo proved why he remains the face of boxing and made sure everyone knows it too. He also took shots at Gervonta Davis and Mike Tyson in his post-fight speech.
Gervonta Davis put on a dominant performance to defeat Ryan Garcia, via a knockout in the 7th round. After his victory over Garcia, Davis claimed to be the new face of boxing in his post-fight interview. His claim got even stronger after the PPV sales and gate earnings for the Davis vs Garcia fight were revealed. Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson also agreed with Davis becoming the new face of boxing. Tyson also stated that all of Garcia’s fans have become Tank’s fans, making him the biggest draw. Mike Tyson also claimed middleweight boxing champion David Benavidez will defeat Canelo if they ever fought.
Canelo Alvarez did not agree with these claims and had very different opinions. The Mexican super middleweight champion stated that Davis needed a lot of wins under his belt to be considered the face of boxing. Canelo also added that he was the current face of boxing and after his recent win with Ryder, he made it known. During his post-fight interview, Alvarez shared his thoughts surrounding the recent claims.
Canelo was asked for his views on Mike Tyson, claiming Gervonta Davis to be the new face of boxing. He was also asked what did he make of Tyson’s comment that David Benavidez can beat Canelo. “They wish, They wish, but you know it’s not that easy. I’m still here,” said Canelo affirming that until he retires, he will remain at the top.
Canelo still aiming for the Dmitry Bivol rematch

Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez scored a dominant win against British Boxer John Ryder, standing true to his nickname, Brit Basher. After his win over Ryder, Canelo wants to avenge his loss against light-heavyweight boxer Dmitry Bivol. Bivol handed Alvarez his second career loss after Floyd Mayweather in 2013.
“Everybody knows, we want the rematch with Bivol. The only thing we have in mind is to have that rematch with Bivol,” said Alvarez in his post-fight interview. The undisputed super middleweight champion wants to run it back with the same rules as his first fight. Canelo also stated he wants the rematch at 175 lbs as opposed to 168 lbs. “If I beat him at 168, I’ll win because I go down, if I go up in weight they won’t say anything, that’s why I want it to be at 175 pounds,” explained Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo also mentioned that if not Bivol, he has his best interest in mind and is open to fighting other fighters as well. “The only thing we have in mind is to have that rematch with Bivol, but if not, look for the other important fights that are also out there… if that fight doesn’t happen, I’m not closed, obviously there’s Benavidez, Charlo.” If everything goes according to plan, Canelo will be targeting his fight against Bivol in September.
